Spring Lake Theatre presents "The SpongeBob Musical"

(SPRING LAKE, NJ) -- Spring Lake Theatre presents The SpongeBob Musical across three weekends in October. When Bikini Bottom, the home of SpongeBob Squarepants and his friends, is threatened by the impending eruption of a volcano, SpongeBob springs into action to save the town he loves. Despite the repeated protests of the citizens of Bikini Bottom telling him he is nothing more than “a simple sponge”, SpongeBob knows he has the potential to be the hero his town needs.

Plainfield Symphony opens season with "Once Upon a Time"

(PLAINFIELD, NJ) -- Under the baton of Maestro Charles Prince, the Plainfield Symphony's 103rd season opens on October 15, 2022 at 7:00pm with “Once Upon a Time,” showcasing two works from the imaginary world. Tapiola, Op. 112 is Finnish composer Jean Sibelius’ mysterious final tone poem and the well-known Scheherazade, Op. 35 is a symphonic suite composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and based on “The One Thousand and One Nights.”

Rider University announces Fall 2022 performance schedule

(LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ) -- Rider University's College of Arts and Sciences has announced its Fall 2022 performing arts schedule. Rider’s comprehensive theatre, musical theatre, dance, music and voice programs have a rich tradition of preparing students for thriving careers as well-rounded performers and musical leaders. Westminster Chapel Choir, Westminster Choir and Westminster Symphonic Choir will also be performing on the road.

The Westfield Community Players presents "Night Watch"

(WESTFIELD, NJ) -- The Westfield Community Players presents Night Watch, a suspense by Lucille Fletcher with five performances in October. Unable to sleep, Elaine Wheeler paces the living room of her Manhattan townhouse, troubled by unsettling memories and vague fears. Her husband tries to comfort her, but when he steps away for a moment Elaine screams as she sees (or believes she sees) the body of a dead man in the window across the way.

Ephrat Asherie Dance Performs ‘UnderScored’ at the Grunin Center

(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- The Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts at Ocean County College presents Ephrat Asherie Dance—UnderScored on Friday, October 21 at 7:00pm on the Main Stage. Join Ephrat Asherie Dance on an exhilarating journey through the ever-changing physical landscape of New York City’s underground dance community. Created and performed by members of the company along with special guest artists from New York City’s underground scene, UnderScored is inspired by the intergenerational memories of club dancers.

The Shakespeare Theatre presents Two One-Act Gems by Alice Childress

(MADISON, NJ) -- The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (STNJ) will bring two very different but superb one-act plays, Florence and Mojo, by Alice Childress to its Main Stage. Alice Childress, often acknowledged as the only 20th-century African-American woman to have written, produced, and published plays for four decades, was at the height of her powers in the 1950s and 60s. Her broad literary universe spanned over 40 years and earned her a Pulitzer Prize nomination for her novel A Short Walk. Florence and Mojo will be on the Main Stage from October 26 – November 13.  

Wharton Arts' Artistic Director Receives Eastman School of Music Centennial Award

(BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ) -- Wharton Arts, New Jersey’s largest non-profit community performing arts education organization, announced that Artistic Director Helen H. Cha-Pyo is one of 100 select individuals chosen to receive the prestigious Eastman School of Music Centennial Award. The award is granted to those who exemplify the school’s mission and legacy through their commitment to artistry, scholarship, leadership, community engagement, and philanthropy. Cha-Pyo joins Renée Fleming, Ron Carter, Chuck Mangione, and Maria Schneider, among other notable artists, as a Centennial Awardee. For a complete list of awardees, click here.

SpringHill's Recipe for Change – two specials at TIFF, not just about food!

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The Teaneck International Film Festival, now in its 17th year, will include two Recipe for Change specials, from The SpringHill Company, that deal with crucial issues of the day.  Amplifying Black Women, which was selected by a panel of students, will be shown at Teaneck High School in two assembly programs, each of which will be followed by a talkback.  Teaneck resident Dena Grushkin, who is an educator and filmmaker, has created questions for teachers to use in their classrooms to facilitate further discussion.  Members of the public may buy tickets online to Standing Up to Antisemitism, which will be shown at Temple Emeth (1666 Windsor Road), Sunday, November 20 at 3:00pm.
