Jerry Blavat — aka ‘The Geator with the Heater’ and ‘The Boss with the Hot Sauce’ — is a disc jockey, actor, and entertainer who’s had a major influence on the music industry. Born in Philadelphia, Blavat gained fame as a teen when he appeared as a regular on WFIL-TV’s Bandstand. After hosting live dances in the Philly/South Jersey area, he started his own radio show, created the Lost Nite and Crimson record labels, and appeared in films and on television. In 1998, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His 2011 memoir is entitled You Only Rock Once.
(CLIFTON, NJ) -- The Theater League of Clifton will stage a production of the Broadway musical Man of La Mancha at the Clifton High School auditorium across two weekends in July (15-17 and 22-24). A beloved theatrical classic written by Dale Wasserman with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, opened at Broadway’s Martin Beck Theater on March 20, 1965, and had a run of over 2,300 shows. There have been numerous revivals and regional productions over the years. The production is best known for its signature song, “The Impossible Dream.”
Hudson Shakespeare Company returns for its 30th season of traveling Shakespeare with a medieval take of “Hamlet, Prince of Denmark”. The show stars Zach Hendrickson as the prince directed by the ghost of his father to avenge his murder at the hands of his uncle Claudius (Jon Ciccarelli), but at what cost? Who can Hamlet trust and what should do? Can the supernatural vision be trusted in a court where conspiracy and intrigue operate around each corner?
(SKILLMAN, NJ) -- The Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM), central New Jersey’s only Black history museum, will hold its first Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 18, from 11:00am to 3:00pm. This family-friendly event, “Freedom Forward,” will feature live music from The Jonathan Ware Quartet, food from Trenton BBQ restaurant “The Big Easy,” artist talks, theatrical performances, activities for kids, and inspiring community speakers and leaders celebrating African American resilience and freedom. It will take place at the National Historic Register-listed Mt. Zion AME Church in Skillman and the adjacent True Farmstead, a historic African American-owned property recently purchased by SSAAM and the Sourland Conservancy. This celebration marks the first time visitors will be welcomed back to the museum’s home in-person since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nicholas Winton: The Man Who Saved 669 Children, directed by Frédéric Tonolli, is a film unlike any other. There are many movies on the Holocaust, unfortunately, but it is because there is so much to discuss. The Holocaust was an immensely dark time for Jewish people where over six million Jews were murdered simply because they were Jewish. This film depicts the astounding actions of Sir Nicholas Winton which prevented the killing of Jewish children. Winton uses his own money to transport children from areas under Nazi rule to England. This film also focuses on the hardships that families faced while they were broken up as parents could not accompany their children.
