New Jersey Youth Symphony to Open Season with Spectacular Korean Three-Drum Dance

(NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ) -- The New Jersey Youth Symphony (NJYS), a program of Wharton Arts, officially opens the symphonic season on Saturday, October 30 at 4:00 p.m. at The Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton with a dynamic concert featuring the NJYS Youth Symphony and Samgomu Dancers Holly Shin-Young Knudson, Quinn Lee, and Brooke Jee-in Newmaster. The award-winning orchestra under the baton of Helen H. Cha-Pyo presents Symphonic Dances!, a vibrant display of Korean arts and culture featuring traditional Korean dancing and drumming. Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances and Manuel de Falla’s Three-Cornered Hat, Suite No. 2 will interlace with Kyle Newmaster’s Impressions of Cheonmachong: Concerto for Korean Three Drum Dance for a spectacular family event.



NJPAC Celebrated 25th Anniversary at The Women@NJPAC Spotlight Gala

(NEWARK, NJ) -- More than 800 guests filled NJPAC’s Prudential Hall on Saturday, October 1, as the Arts Center hosted its first in-person WomenatNJPAC Spotlight Gala in three years. The annual fundraiser drew arts lovers, Newark advocates and NJPAC supporters together to celebrate the Arts Center’s 25th anniversary season and to raise $2.2 million for NJPAC’s extensive arts education and community engagement programs.

NJPAC Announces Top Five Finalists of 11th Annual Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition

(NEWARK, NJ) -- A world of jazz just minutes from home, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) has announced the top five finalists of the 11th Annual Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. Pulled from over 200 submissions from over 25 countries, these gifted young contestants from around the world represent the next generation of great jazz singers. The Top Five finalists comprise two international singers Kristin Lash of Bratislava, Slovakia, and Lucía Gutiérrez Rebolloso of Mexico, and three Manhattanites: Harlem-based Allan Harris and Ekep Nkwelle (originally from Washington, DC), and Lucy Yeghiazaryan (originally from Armavir, Armenia).
