The Lambertville-based gypsy jazz quartet Pyrenesia have released a concert LP, "Live From The Birdhouse.”
The appropriately bird-loving track "Dance of the Waxwing" is the Makin Waves Song of the Week.
As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Dance of the Waxwing“ also can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on April 24 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com. If you miss it, you can tune in any time in the archives at The Penguin, Mixcloud and RadioJersey.net.
“‘Dance of the Waxwing’ was written by our bassist, Daniel Manchester, and arranged by Pyrenesia,” violinist Daniella Fischetti said. “It was inspired by the courtship dance of the Cedar Waxwing and the way the birds hop back and forth on a branch when the male offers a female a small gift. The melody features bouncy chromatic lines and tight harmonies between accordion and violin. Recorded in front of a live audience, the track also features improvised solos and tender dynamic contrast.”
The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Justin Nawn of the Birdhouse Center for the Arts in Lambertville.
Pyrenesia also features accordionist Tony Kovatch and guitarist Tim Ryan.
Upcoming shows include Shad Fest, April 24, Lambertville, and May 3, Summit Public Library.
Enjoy Pyrenesia on Apple Music and Spotify.
