The sun goes down and all, but as you may have heard, it doesn't get dark here in Iceland. It's continually light. My first night here, before the supposed "sunset" that happens just after midnight, there were people on the basketball court nearby shooting hoops. Quietly and all, but for reals, unless it's cloudy, it's as good as daytime and if you need it to be dark to tell your body to sleep... good luck.



Carteret's Latin Fest brings merengue star Rubby Perez to waterfront on July 29th

(CARTERET, NJ) -- Mayor Daniel J. Reiman, the Borough Council and Carteret Business Partnershp will present the Borough's annual Latin Fest, which is expected to bring more than 20,000 visitors to Waterfront Park & Veteran's Pier on Saturday, July 29, 2023.



New Hope Arts Center Grand Reopening Raised $150,000 towards their $1.25 Million Dollar Goal

(NEW HOPE, NJ) -- The Board of New Hope Arts Center is proud to announce a significant milestone of $150k in successful fundraising during the organization's weeklong celebratory reopening and ticketed events. The institution officially reopened doors on June 6th, starting with the imaginatively planned "Beyond the Blueprint" Grand Reopening Celebration, followed by a "Members Only Celebration" on June 10th.



Surflight Theatre presents "State Fair" through July 9th

(BEACH HAVEN, NJ) -- Surflight Theatre is currently presenting State Fair through July 9, 2023. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents "And A Nightingale Sang..."

Asbury Park Theater Company presents "The Bikinis"

Award-Winning Playwright John Patrick Shanley to Workshop New Play at The Black Box

(ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- The Black Box continues to attract some of theatre's finest talents. Limited tickets are now available for a unique summer fundraiser: a staged-reading workshop presentation of a brand new play by Oscar, Tony, and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer John Patrick Shanley, a comedic and poignant three-hander work-in-progress titled The Lost Years. Two special performances at The Black Box will be on Friday, July 28th and Saturday, July 29th at 8:00pm, each followed by a conversation with Mr. Shanley and the creative team.



Brookdale Culinary Student Selected for Gilman Scholarship to Study in Japan

NJPAC presents a Spring Season of Jazz

(NEWARK, NJ) -- New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) presents a Spring Season of Jazz with free monthly jazz jams at Clement's Place and two special concert events inside the Victoria Theater. This series, running from September through June, is co-presented by NJPAC's Jazz Advisory Committee and Rutgers University–Newark's Institute of Jazz Studies (IJS). PBS' Independent Lens Launches 20th Season of Free Pop-Up Screening Series in Teaneck and Nationwide

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The award-winning PBS documentary series, INDEPENDENT LENS, presents the launch of the upcoming season of Indie Lens Pop-Up in partnership with the Teaneck International Film Festival and the Puffin Cultural Forum. "She's Like the Wind"

The first thing you'll see upon entering the gallery at Deep Space (77 Cornelison St.) is the shadow-outline of a woman's leg. There it is, on a chartreuse background, sticking straight up in the air with a curvaceous bare foot inches from the ceiling. That's all of the subject of "Lemon Lime Toe of God" that the oil painter Delilah Ray Miske is willing to show us. The rest of the body, she implies, is splayed out on a bed. We know it's summer because the window is closed and the air conditioner is plugged in. There's a pretty good chance that the possessor of the leg is undressed. In one hand, she holds a cellphone, and she might be broadcasting something. On the wall, a small whip-like broomstick hangs. It could be the ride of a tiny witch. It could be the professional tool of a dominatrix.
