Rock On! This Week's Sound Bites....8/17/23

"That's right," laughed a very jovial Tommy Castro, "The record has been out for a while but it's summertime so we're hitting all of the spots. We've been to Europe a couple of times this year and that's where I'm at now, I'm calling you from Romania; we have a show here and then head back to the States for a private event in Minnesota, a festival in New Hampshire and the gig at Somers Point and The Iridium. We are just keeping busy and we'll finally be home in September and I'll get a chance to hang around my house and relax for a few weeks (laughs)."



Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival Returns to Salem County

A tradition of more than 50 years returns to the Salem County Fairgrounds, located at 735 Harding Highway in Woodstown, this Labor Day Weekend. The Delaware County Bluegrass Festival has been held since 1972, and in South Jersey since the 1990s. This year's 51st annual festival will take place Sept. 1-3 and is sure to bring a jamming good time to all in attendance.

From time to time, a wise thinker comes along, helping us contend with existential mysteries. Liu Shiming, celebrated as a sculptor in his native China, thinks and speaks like a philosopher. "You should look at life like a child does," he wrote in his diary in 1982. "When you take the perspective of an innocent child, all love and everything in life feels fresh and lovely."



5th New Jersey Web Festival to Take Place September 21-24

(MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- New Jersey Web Festival (NJ WebFest) will be held in Montclair at Montclair Film and The Clairidge from September 21-24, 2023. The festival has announced the complete nominations list for its milestone 5th edition. The 2023 festival continues to be a world-leading celebrator of indie web content with over 175 projects programmed. NJ WebFest features Web Series, Fiction Podcasts, Short Films, Music Videos, Actual Play Projects, Standalone Audio Pieces, Pilots, and Trailers.








MPAC presents Judy Collins and Madeleine Peyroux

Atlantic City Theater Company to Present "The Profession" at Jersey Fringe Festival

(HAMMONTON, NJ) -- The Profession is a 3 person cast, absurdist tragic comedy being produced by the Atlantic City Theatre Company at The Eagle Theatre, as part of the Jersey Fringe Festival. John McEwen of New Jersey Theatre Alliance Among New Board Members at Mid Atlantic Arts

Symphony in C Announces 2023-2024 Season

(CAMDEN, NJ) -- New Jersey-based professional training orchestra Symphony in C has announced its 2023-2024 season following the recent appointment of its new Music Director, Noam Aviel. Aviel began her position in July and makes her debut as Music Director conducting Smetana's Overture from The Bartered Bride, Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 18 (soloist TBA), and Tchaikovsky's Symphony 4 during Symphony in C's season opening concert on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 8:00pm All concerts take place at Gordon Theater at the Rutgers-Camden Center for the Arts in Camden.



Jason Didner to Go Electric at Millburn Rocktoberfest 2023

PBS' Independent Lens Launches 20th Season of Free Pop-Up Screening Series in Teaneck and Nationwide

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The award-winning PBS documentary series, INDEPENDENT LENS, presents the launch of the upcoming season of Indie Lens Pop-Up in partnership with the Teaneck International Film Festival and the Puffin Cultural Forum. The season kicks-off on February 4, 2026 with The Librarians and continues through May. The series is free for all but sign up is required.
