The Summit Playhouse presents "My Fair Lady"

originally published: 03/23/2026

(SUMMIT, NJ) -- The Summit Playhouse presents My Fair Lady weekends from April 25 through May 10, 2026. It's the tale of a cockney flower girl transformed into an elegant lady, featuring one of musical theatre's greatest scores.  It features a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe.

This show is the standard by which all other musicals are measured. Based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion, with book, music and lyrics by Lerner and Loewe, My Fair Lady is gloriously triumphant. It features one of musical theatre’s greatest scores. Songs include “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?,” “With a Little Bit of Luck,” “The Rain in Spain,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “On the Street Where You Live,” “Get Me to the Church on Time” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face.”

The cast includes: Missy Renwick (Eliza Doolittle), Tait Ruppert (Henry Higgins), David Simon (Alfred P. Doolittle), Faisal Sheikh (Freddy Eynesford-Hill), Jonathan Richards (Colonel Pickering), Lauri MacMillan (Mrs. Pearce), Jodi Maloy (Mrs. Higgins), Ed Faver (Zoltan Karpathy), and Lisa Barnett (Mrs. Eynseford-Hill).

The ensemble includes: Rebecca Iacovitti, Maura Spillane, Natalya Cespedes, Nicole Pepe, Kaitlin Obien, Maria Varela, Patrick Carty, Rich Maloy, Andrew Blais, Peter Kane, Anusha Kohli, Ken Webb, and Lisa Wolper.

Performances take place Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm and Sunday matinees at 2:00pm.  Tickets are available for purchase online. The theater is located at 10 New England Avenue in Summit, New Jersey.

The production team includes Director Sharon Garry, Musical Direction by Emily Bengels, and Choreography by Donna Bialkin.

My Fair Lady played for 2,717 performances on Broadway at the Mark Hellinger, Broadhurst and Broadway Theatres starring Rex Harrison, Julie Andrews, Stanley Holloway and Robert Coote. It was the longest running musical at the time. It played for 2,281 performances in London at the Drury Lane Theatre. It was revived on Broadway in 1976 for 377 performances, in 1981 for 181 performances, and most recently in 1993 for 165 performances at the Virginia Theatre starring Richard Chamberlain as Professor Henry Higgins.

The Summit Playhouse is one of the oldest continuously operating community theaters in the United States. Founded in 1918 as a World War I relief organization, they’ve staged over 300 productions and continue to thrive as a vibrant hub for local talent and theater lovers.

Each season, they produce three Main Stage plays -- in the fall, winter, and spring. Their Kaleidoscope Youth Theatre adds to the magic with Junior productions in December plus two summer musicals that showcase the talents of young performers.

Their commitment to the community goes beyond the stage. They offer benefit performances for local causes, award scholarships to students pursuing theater or music in college, and collaborate with other Summit organizations throughout the year.

The Playhouse is located just off Springfield Avenue in a charming historic building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally built in 1891 as Summit’s first library, the stone structure was transformed into a theater in 1918 and expanded in 1960 with a 120-seat auditorium. It's a living piece of local history and a welcoming space for creativity, learning, and live performance.
