New Jersey Stage published its 25,000th story in December 2021. As the site approached the milestone, we posed the question on social media as how we should celebrate. One response was to highlight our favorite stories from over the years. We liked this idea, but could not narrow things down to just 25 favorites so we will present a favorite each day from different genres. Every Tuesday will feature a story about theatre. We're kicking off this series with an interview of Joe DiPietro, an award-winning playwright.
The interview was published November 21, 2015 and is available here. At the time, DiPietro, a New Jersey native, was returning to New Brunswick for his play The Second Mrs. Wilson. This would be one of seven productions for the two-time Tony Award winner at George Street Playhouse. In the interview he talks about being a political junkie, his relationship with George Street Playhouse, working with David Bryan (best known as a member of Bon Jovi), and what it was like winning a Tony Award with a fellow guy from Jersey.
Charles Paolino would talk with DiPietro in February 2020 about Conscience, another play with a political theme that was presented at George Street Playhouse.
