"My Witch: The Margaret Hamilton Stories" Closes on Sunday

originally published: 10/27/2022

(HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) -- Centenary Stage Company’s 2022 Fringe Festival is almost over and the Fat Knight production of My Witch: The Margaret Hamilton Stories will finish its run on Sunday, October 30. Performances will take place in the Kutz Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center of the Centenary University campus. My Witch: The Margaret Hamilton Stories tells the story of Margaret Hamilton, known for her role as the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz.

This 85-minute, one-woman show pays homage to the actress behind the most widely recognized cackle. Margaret Hamilton was more than the Wicked Witch of the West, and this show tells the before, during, and after she performed that iconic role.

“Creating a play usually ends with reviews, My Witch began with one,” says playwright John Ahlin. “A New Jersey reviewer once compared Jean Tafler’s performance as a female Scrooge to Margaret Hamilton. Curiosity led me to explore if there was a play hidden in Hamilton’s life, and within half-a-day’s research, such wonderful and fascinating things came pouring forth about ‘Maggie’, Hollywood, Oz and beyond, that the play nearly launched itself. “

“She is a character that everyone needs to meet.” Ahlin is Artistic Director of the New York City-based Fat Knight Theatre, which is producing My Witch

Directed by Will Pomerantz, Associate Artistic Director of Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, NY, where the play was first developed, the show runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.
