Kathy Zimmer To Play Mercury Lounge on March 14th

(NEW YORK, NY) -- Kathy Zimmer will perform at the Mercury Lounge on Monday, March 14 on a bill with Rogelio Penaverde (known as Illustrado). Kathy hits the stage at 6:30pm, Ilustrado comes on at 7:30pm. This is Kathy's first show since February 2020.

Kathy Zimmer is recommended for fans of Phoebe Bridgers, Joan Baez, Kacey Musgraves. Equipped with beautiful storytelling talents and an enchanting voice, the NYC-based singer-songwriter Kathy Zimmer fuses folk with pop, and describes her style as "cosmopolitan folk."   Think: sophisticated, sincere, smart, accessible with a variety of identifiable influences including country music, 1960s girl groups and classic pop singer-songwriters.

Kathy will be performing new songs written over the past year and a half.

Ms. Zimmer has several releases of her music, most recently a vinyl record in 2019 combining two EPs, “White Noise” and “Sparkling Smile,” and a separate single, a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.”

From Nebraska, where she grew up and went to college, Kathy attended the Cleveland Institute of Music for her masters. She came to New York City at a time when artists including Regina Spektor, Stepfani Germanotta, and Rachel Platten were new to the scene.  All four have done alright in their music careers.

Rock n’ Reel Magazine has declared her the “latter day Joan Baez.” The Roots Music Report proclaims, “At various turns enchanting, haunting and soothing—and at times a bit of all of these—Ms. Zimmer’s sophisticated song crafting never fails to charm.”

ILUSTRADO is Rogelio Penaverde Jr., a native of Manila, Philippines. He came to New York to pursue a scholarship at the Manhattan School of Music for a Master’s Degree in Voice. After finishing his studies, he carved out a career in opera, musical theater and sacred music with critical acclaim (the New York Times celebrated his “sweet voice” while Opera Magazine lauded him as an “incisive tenor”). When the pandemic wiped away all his engagements in 2020, he rediscovered his passion and gift for songwriting. He is currently touring his album-in-progress, the Pearl Drive Project, which features works in rock, soul, and dance. An artist who found himself when the world stopped, he now answers to a different calling - to share a piece of himself with every music he creates.

Tickets are available for purchase online.  Tickets are sold at $10 ($12 on the day of the show) and will partly benefit the Mary Queen of Heaven Missionaries, a duly-registered non-profit in the US that rescues prostituted children in the Philippines and provides them free education.

The Mercury Lounge is at 217 E. Houston Street between Ludlow & Essex, in New York City’s Lower Eastside. Given the rising COVID-19 counts and breakthrough cases in the NYC metropolitan area, Bowery Ballroom & Mercury Lounge’s policy now requires guests to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This policy will be in place until further notice. Upon arrival, all guests must present a photo ID along with proof that they meet the CDC definition of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be given in the form of a paper copy, excelsior pass, Key to NYC Pass (upon release), or digital image of a guest’s vaccines card.

In addition to the vaccination policy, New York City continues to encourage masks for all indoor gatherings, except while you are actively eating or drinking. The venue will continue to monitor regulations and local cases to inform our policy and keep events as safe as possible for our fans, artists, and staff.
