
(PLAINSBORO, NJ) -- The award-winning Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra will present its 2021-22 Season Finale, “A Concerto Extravaganza!” on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at 7:00pm, at the Princeton Alliance Church in Plainsboro. The concert will be conducted by its director, Chiu-Tze Lin. It will feature the winners of the 2022 Young Artists Competition, sponsored by the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra. They are pianists Yidi Ding and Christopher Shin, cellist Evelyn Joung, and violinist Joshua Song. These young soloists were selected in late April from nearly fifty contestants, representing ten states across the country.
Ten-year-old pianist Yidi Ding, has already won over 20 first prizes in numerous prestigious piano competitions. Yidi was selected as a Lang Lang International Music Foundation Young Scholar at 8 years old. Renowned pedagogues have lauded Yidi for his prodigious musical development, and feel he is “a natural, with impressive emotional expression far exceeding his age.”Yidi will perform the 1stmovement of Mozart Piano Concerto in A Major, K.488.
A native of Princeton, NJ, Evelyn Joung, age 14, was accepted into the Juilliard Pre-College Division when she was 11 as its youngest cello student. Evelyn has won top prizes as a soloist in numerous competitions. Through her awards, Evelyn has performed at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and Lincoln Center. Evelyn will perform the Tchaikovsky Variations on a Theme by Rococo.
Christopher Shin is a 16-year-old pianist from Cherry Hill, NJ. Christopher has been awarded prizes at numerous piano competitions, including 2nd place in the National MTNA Senior Competition. Christopher has also received First Place in the NJMTA Young Musicians Competition for past four consecutive years. Recently, he was the First Prize winner of the 2021 Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, CT, and he was a winner in the 2021 and 2022 National YoungArts Competitions. Christopher will perform the 1st movement of the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 1.
Violinist Joshua Song, age 16, has won first place in several competitions, including the New York YWCA of Queens Music Competition, International New Praise Festival, He has also won the Grand Prize in the International Grande Music Competition. His concert venues include Weill Recital Hall, Bruno Walter Auditorium, and the New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall. Joshua will perform the 1stmovement of the Sibelius Violin Concerto.
The concert will also include the popular William Tell Overture by Rossini. The overture is familiar because it includes the theme for the well-known television series “The Lone Ranger.” It is music that displays the feisty and unconquerable human spirit, which is very appropriate and much needed for our challenging times.
