ROCK ON! This Week's Sound Bites...12/8/16

By Danny Coleman

originally published: 12/08/2016
"I'm originally from Pennsylvania but I've been in Montreal for the last year and a half. I'm here in school to study music," explains Aubreylyn as she willingly discussed her music and upcoming tour which begins on December 14. "The school and Montreal in general has a huge jazz culture which is what I love."

This stunning young lady from the quaint county of Bucks. located in the eastern part of PA, who says her style is that of, "Diverse Pop;" is musically mature beyond her years and has the name to match. "My name was parental choice," she said with a slight laugh. "My mom and dad wanted something that was different and my dad had three sisters and I'm told that they had some influence on him but I have always liked it."

Aubreylyn began her journey by tickling the ivories at a very young age and composing her first song not long after she had begun taking instruction. "I had formal lessons starting at age six and that lasted until I was 11. I think that I've always enjoyed songwriting and I wrote my first song at eight years old. By the time I was 11 I said, "I don't need lessons anymore, I'll write my own" and then somewhere around age 14 or 15 I committed myself to doing this and making it my goal."

Going the singles route versus an EP, she has released four efforts which can be found on iTunes, Spotify and in her press kit. On this tour however, she plans to put them all together on a disc and make it available for purchase at each of stops along the way. "Yes, for this tour I'm putting my songs onto a CD and it will be for sale at each show. The tour starts on December 14 and covers four cities. I'll be in Boston, New York City, then Philadelphia and I end up in Washington DC. I'm with Rasputina and they are an orchestral alternative group with two cellos and a piano; they are a very niche group. They're shows are like an art form, they use a lot of historical nuances in their music and I'm looking forward to performing along with them on this tour."

Aubreylyn has performed at times as a solo act in the past but has now added additional musicians to enhance her repertoire. Joining her on this four city jaunt will be three string players; giving her somewhat of that same orchestral sound. "My producer David Ivory and I put together a band of three string players; violas and violins. Depending on the venue we change up things a little or their positioning is also different depending on the song but yeah, they add a lot to my live performances."

Even though her self description of "Diverse Pop" is quite accurate, this young, up and coming siren has an edge to her vocal that enables her to cover various ranges and styles reminiscent of a young speak easy singer, yet pop enough to invoke thoughts of Alanis Morisette as well. With such versatility, she has positioned herself for success and she has the drive and determination to make it happen. When asked about her future, she is wide open to most possibilities; with a little bit of "Hope" thrown in. "Well, it depends on," she stated with a pause; the kind which exudes cautious optimism. "I recently met Jason Jordan, he is the President of Imagem Music in the U.S. and now he's involved with the A & R and he's supposed to be coming to the New York City show. Hopefully that connection will take me toward even more opportunities but in the mean time, I'll keep writing and going to school and taking it all day by day."

That's it for this week! Please continue to support live and original music and until next week....ROCK ON!
