Signed Guitar By The Smithereens Donated For EarthShare NJ Rocks Benefit

originally published: 10/12/2021

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- EarthShare NJ Rocks, an all-ages benefit for the environment hosted by the non-profit EarthShare New Jersey, will take place on Thursday, October 14 at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Four bands will perform including NO XQUSE of Staten Island, which includes former members of Freepass; Revolver, based in Millstone Twp., plays music from Bon Jovi to the Eagles to Motley Crue; Jump Back, a four-piece, blues-influenced band from Long Branch; and Echo Charlie, a group of seasoned musicians bringing the party with songs from the 1960s to today. Proceeds from the concert will support the conservation of air, water, land and wildlife across New Jersey.

One of New Jersey’s best rock-and-roll bands is contributing in a signature way. The Smithereens have signed a special-edition guitar, which will go to a lucky fan at the all-ages show.  The guitar was purchased and donated by bass player Ted Palumbo of Echo Charlie, one of four bands to play at the benefit show.

"The Smithereens – Jim Babjak, Dennis Diken, and Mike Mesaros, along with their guest vocalist, Marshall Crenshaw – are proud to support Earth Share NJ and sign a Les Paul Special edition Epiphone guitar for Thursday’s event," the band said in a statement.

Tickets are $25 for adults in advance and $30 at the door, and $15 in advance for students and $20 at the door (with valid ID). Tickets are available for purchase online. The first 100 to enter receive a free event T-shirt. All ages welcome; must be 21 and older to purchase alcohol.

Tom Kaminski, veteran traffic reporter for WCBS Newsradio 880, will be the master of ceremonies and guest drummer.

“I can’t think of a better reason to get out of the house, get on the dance floor, have some fun and support our environment,” says Paula Aldarelli, executive director of EarthShare New Jersey. “We’ve seen almost weekly reminders of the need to protect and preserve our natural surroundings– now and in the future. Please come out and support this worthy cause Oct. 14 at The Stone Pony.”

Doors open at 6:30pm, and the show starts at 7:00pm. Tickets purchased for the March 2020 show, which was canceled due to COVID-19, will be honored.

According to The Stone Pony web site: New Jersey state guidelines suggest anyone not vaccinated against COVID-19 should wear a mask and socially distance from others. Anyone who is not feeling well should not enter the venue.

The Stone Pony is located at 913 Ocean Avenue in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Earthshare New Jersey is a private non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to mobilize the people of New Jersey to conserve and protect our land, water, air and wildlife, making the state a healthier place to live, work and play.
