Paul Robeson Galleries Presents "Feast & Famine"

(NEWARK, NJ) -- The Paul Robeson Galleries at Express Newark present Feast & Famine, an exploration of food as a social, political, and bodily phenomenon, from March 28 through December 14, 2019. The exhibitions considers food as a commodity; the relationship between food, death, sex, and the abject; food’s relationship to global economics and geo-politics; food and its likeness as a medium for artistic experimentation; the food chain and the environmental impacts of food production; and food justice.

Feast & Famine gathers together works in a variety of media from artists and artist collectives working nationally and internationally, at different stages in their career. The exhibition features works by John Baldessari, Gladys Barker Grauer, Jackie Batey, Christopher Cardinale, Maria Fernanda Cardoso, Morgan Carothers, Melanie Cervantes, Catherine Chalmers, Dustin Chang and Nicole Schulman, Julie Chen, Claudia Claremi, Willie Cole, Conflict Kitchen (Jon Rubin and Dawn Weleski), Sharon Core, B. Cortez & B. Express Newark, located at 54 Halsey Street, 2nd Floor in Newark, New Jersey,  is a university–community collaboratory in Newark’s historic Hahne & Company building. A conceptual framework and an interdisciplinary learning space, Express Newark houses the Newest Americans; the Form Design Studio; the Design Consortium; Visual Means; Shine Portrait Studio; the Community Media Center; Scarlet Magazine; the Newark Print Shop; the Paul Robeson Galleries; and twenty-two resident artists in printmaking, photography, painting and video. 

At Express Newark, artists and community residents collaborate, experiment, and innovate in partnership with Rutgers University – Newark faculty, staff, and students with the goals of engaging in public work, creative practice, and democratic dialogue in order to promote positive transformation.

(DEAL PARK, NJ) -- The Gallery on Grant will host an opening reception for its new art show, "Enduring Spirit," on Sunday, July 12, 2026 from 6:15pm-7:30pm in the gallery, which is located inside the Axelrod Performing Arts Center. "Enduring Spirit" showcases two artists: the paintings of Toby Bergman and the sculptures of Bunnye Levi. Bergman will also give a brief discussion of her art at the reception.
