(MONTVILLE, NJ) -- The Barn Theatre of Montville NJ seeks original one act plays for The Solstice Showcase, its annual festival. This three day event showcases new works of up and coming writers from the NJ/NY area and beyond as well as other theatrical talent. Aspiring playwrights and newcomers wishing to try their hand at directing or designing are especially welcomed and encouraged to become involved. The submission deadline for playwrights to submit their plays is February 28, 2017. The festival will take place in June 2017.
Here are the play submission guidelines:
- Original and non-published one act plays may be submitted.
- One act plays submitted should have a running time between 15-30 minutes
- Playwrights wishing to submit their one acts for consideration must send their script via the form below.
- Submissions must include contact information on the cover sheet ONLY. The author’s name or contact information should NOT appear on any other pages of the submitted works as they will be distributed to the Play Selection committee anonymously.
- Each play will be read by an appointed Play Selection Committee. Members of the Play Selection committee will not be considered for a directing slot in the festival nor allowed to submit a play. Each play will be judged on a 5 point scale based upon the areas of:
- Originality
- Ability to be produced on the Barn Theatre stage
- Appropriateness for the core audiences of the Barn Theatre
- Character development
- Overall entertainment value
- The plays will be narrowed down, based upon the highest scores. From these top scoring plays, a list of the final plays to be produced will be chosen.
- Submissions must be received no later than March 1st, 2017.
- Playwrights are not eligible to direct their own pieces in the Festival.
- Playwright may submit more than one play, but each play must be submitted separately via the online form below.
- The Barn Theatre will NOT be paying any royalties or compensations of any kind to the playwrights for the right to produce these original non-published pieces.
