East Lynne Theater Company Receives $12,000 Grant From Travel and Tourism

(CAPE MAY, NJ) -- The Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company just received word that it's receiving $12,000.00 from the Cooperative Marketing Grant sponsored by the New Jersey Department of State: Division of Travel and Tourism. The award was given based on the scores of an independent evaluation and funding review committee that studied ELTC's application and marketing plan. This is the fifth year in a row that ELTC has received this prestigious grant, and it will be used solely for advertising.

Aside from placing ads and articles in magazines and newspapers outside of South Jersey, ELTC actively pursues performance possibilities beyond state boarders. Funding for these productions comes only from the organizations sponsoring ELTC's touring shows, yet the town of Cape May benefits because ELTC clearly states that its home is Cape May. Sometimes, complete ELTC playbills, including advertising pages, are distributed to patrons.

Since last April, almost 5,000 people attended 35 performances in Kentucky, Texas, Connecticut, New York City, and five Counties in New Jersey: Ocean, Burlington, Union, Middlesex, and Morris. Shows included "Someone Must Wash the Dishes," "Victorian Magic," "Helpful Hints," "Sherlock Holmes Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle," "Eve's Diary," "Yellow Wallpaper," and "Emma Goldman: My Life." Organizations who requested these shows include The Annual Conference of the Popular/American Culture Associations in San Antonia, TX, The Annual Quilters Society Convention in Paducah, KY, Giggles Children's Theater at St. Joseph Children's Hospital in Paterson, NJ, The Actors' Home in Englewood, NJ, and the Congregation Rodeph Shalom in New York City.

Coming up this March, "Sherlock Holmes Adventure of the Norwood Builder" and "Victorian Magic" each travel to three different locations in New Jersey, and plans are being made for "Paul Robeson Through His Words and Music" to travel to Asheville, NC in April. Metropolitan Playhouse and The Algonquin Seaport Theater, both in New York City, have expressed interest in bringing "Emma Goldman: My Life" to their theaters, and in October, ELTC's world premiere production of "The Poe Mysteries" travels to the newly formed 600-seat Ocean Professional Theater Company in Barneget, NJ.

East Lynne Theater Company has been performing throughout the United States since 1980, but for those who wish to see the company in its beautiful performance venue, The First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes Street, Cape May, "Sherlock Holmes Adventure of the Norwood Builder," ELTC's popular radio-style production, is there on March 16 and 17, and then the Summer/Fall Mainstage Season starts up on June 13 with "Ruth Draper's Company of Characters." For information about the season, season tickets, touring shows, and educational outreach, call 609-884-5898 or visit http://www.eastlynnetheater.org.
