Friday, September 20 - Broadway star Norm Lewis kicks off MPAC's 30th Anniversary Season on September 20th. (MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Three decades in the making, Mayo Performing Arts Center's 30th anniversary season officially kicks off on Friday, September 20, 2024 with a performance by Emmy, Grammy, Tony, and SAG Award nominee Norm Lewis. Showtime is 8:00pm.

Saturday, September 21 - State Theatre New Jersey presents Don McLean. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents Don McLean - Starry Starry Night Tour on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 8:00pm. Tickets range from $34-$89.

Saturday, September 21 - Jazz & Roots Music Festival Returns to Kean University on Saturday. (UNION, NJ) -- Kean University's Jazz & Roots Music Festival takes place in Hillside on Saturday, September 21, 2024, offering the public and Kean community a festive free, outdoor celebration of music. This year's festival is headlined by Third World, one of the world’s preeminent reggae bands, and includes performances by Stefon Harris & Blackout, Solomon Hicks, and Prince Hakim.

Sunday, September 22 - State Theatre New Jersey presents The Life and Music of George Michael. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents The Life and Music of George Michael on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 7:30pm. The brand-new concert-style show chronicles the amazing journey George Michael had with music and his fans while capturing the performance and sound of the musical sensation with concert style staging and lighting.

Sunday, September 22 - Inaugural New Jersey Arts Icon Gala to Honor Dionne Warwick. (HOLMDEL, NJ) -- What the world needs now is LOVE, and legendary vocalist Dionne Warwick will bring that love to Bell Theater at Bell Works on Sunday, September 22, 2024 with a once-in-a-lifetime event in support of the Axelrod Performing Arts Center and Bell Theater's cultural arts and education programs. The inaugural New Jersey Arts Icon Gala will include a reception at 5:00pm and auction followed by a concert at 7:00pm featuring Warwick.

Sunday, September 22 - Lizzie Rose Music Room presents acclaimed blues guitarist Joanna Connor. (TUCKERTON, NJ) -- On Sunday, September 22, 2024, the Lizzie Rose Music Room presents acclaimed blues guitarist Joanna Connor. Bees Deluxe will open the night. Showtime is 7:30pm.

Thursday, September 19 - Second Annual Jazz in the Streets features Carrie Jackson. (NEWARK, NJ) -- Clinton Hill Community Action (CHCA), in partnership with the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), present the second annual Jazz in the Streets event on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Clinton Avenue Sound Stage as part of CHCA and NJPAC's collaborative ArtsXChange series. The event runs from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and features Vocalist Carrie Jackson, who hails from the South Ward and is a Weequahic High School grad and will delight with her genre-bending style that includes jazz classics, blues, pop and some surprising renditions that are uniquely her own.

Friday, September 20 - Korn, Gojira, and Spiritbox to Perform Shows in Camden and Newark. (CAMDEN, NJ) -- Following the announcement and sellout of their milestone 30th anniversary show in Los Angeles, two-time GRAMMY-award winning band Korn, announced their 2024 run of shows across North America. The rock cultural icons will embark on the 25-date Live Nation produced tour featuring special guests, GRAMMY-nominated band Gojira and Canadian heavy metal group Spiritbox. The tour comes to New Jersey for shows at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden on Friday, September 20, 2024 and the Prudential Center in Newark on Monday, September 23rd.

(NEWTON, NJ) -- The Newton Theatre presents Direct From Sweden: The Music of ABBA on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 8:00pm. Friday, September 20 - The Princeton Folk Music Society presents The Tannahill Weavers. (PRINCETON, NJ) — Get ready for an evening of high energy Scottish folk-rock as The Princeton Folk Music Society presents The Tannahill Weavers on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Christ Congregation Church in Princeton. The band features a unique combination of traditional melodies, driving rhythmic accompaniment, and rich three- part vocal harmonies that make their performances unforgettable. They are noted for being the first Scottish folk group to incorporate an instrument long thought to be too loud to play nicely with other traditional folk instruments: the highland pipes.

Saturday, September 21 - Stone Pony Summer Stage presents Yacht Rock Revue. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The Stone Pony Summer Stage presents Yacht Rock Revue on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Here's your chance to embark on a journey down memory lane through radiant musical waters. Deemed by Rolling Stone as the "world's premier soft-rock party band," these maestros of smooth grooves transport audiences back to the golden era of the '70s and '80s, bringing sun-soaked anthems into the 21st century. Saturday, September 21 - Plainfield's Annual House Music Festival to Take Place September 21st. (PLAINFIELD, NJ) -- Plainfield's annual House Music Festival for a Cause takes place Saturday, September 21, 2024 in Cedar Brook Park. This is not just any ordinary festival; it's a September sensation that combines the power of music with a positive health awareness initiative. The festival runs from noon to 9:30pm. In case of bad weather, the rain date is Saturday, September 28th.

Saturday, September 21 - Symphony in C presents Rodrigo & Stravinsky on Saturday. (CAMDEN, NJ) -- Symphony in C and Music Director Noam Aviel are excited to present Rodrigo & Stravinsky on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Gordon Theater, Rutgers University-Camden. Showtime is 7:30pm.

Sunday, September 22 - White Eagle Hall presents The Airborne Toxic Event. (JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- White Eagle Hall presents The Airborne Toxic Event on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 8:00pm. Known for their dramatic blend of rock and electronic music with orchestral arrangements, The Airborne Toxic Event skyrocketed to popularity with the gold-selling single from the band's self-titled 2008 debut album, a song which spent a staggering eight weeks at #1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart. Tyler Ramsey will open the night.

An Interview with Dan Kurtz of The New Deal

Formed in 1999, Toronto, Canada based trio The New Deal, is a pioneer in jam-based electronic music. The group was founded by remaining members Dan Kurtz (bass) and Jamie Shields (keys), along with Darren Shearer (drums) who left tND in 2011. Since its inception, tND has remained committed to its improvisational roots and has served as a model for other jamtronica bands bridging the gap between multiple music genres as well as the border between Canada and the United States.

Pianist Anthony Pocetti grew up in Hamilton, NJ, studying piano, "doing sort of traditional piano lessons. I have an uncle who was always encouraging me to get into the jazz thing. He gave me the (Miles Davis) Kind of Blue CD, and he knew that the jazz pianist Jim Ridl was living in Hamilton."
