New Jersey Stage offers previews of concerts throughout the Garden State as well as select shows in New York City and Philadelphia areas. Click on the title to go to the full preview. Friday, February 21 - Grunin Center's Afternoon Recital Series Returns with Four World-Class Pperformances. (TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- The Grunin Center for the Arts has announced details for the upcoming performances in its Afternoon Recital Series, which brings classical music by local, national and international musicians to Ocean County for the community to enjoy. The Spring 2025 series begins on February 21 with the first of four world-class performances, each made possible by the generous support of the Ocean County College Foundation.

Friday, February 21 - Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Richard Thompson, and Jason Isbell Set to Perform at McCarter Theatre Center This Weekend. (PRINCETON, NJ) -- McCarter Theatre Center presents an exciting weekend of performances, starting with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra on Friday and two exciting WXPN Welcomes events: Richard Thompson on Saturday, and Jason Isbell on Sunday.

Saturday, February 22 - bergenPAC presents Folsom Prison Experience - a Johnny Cash music and theater production. (ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) presents Folsom Prison Experience - a Johnny Cash music and theater production on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 8:00pm. Prepare for a high-intensity recreation of one of Johnny Cash's most significant days in his musical career – a day that history now looks back on with amazement.

Saturday, February 22 - Outpost in the Burbs presents Half Waif. (MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- Outpost in the Burbs presents Half Waif on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the First Congregational Church of Montclair. Her latest record, the emotionally powerful See You At The Maypole, was released on October 4, 2024. Showtime is 8:00pm.

Saturday, February 22 - David Wroe and New Jersey Festival Orchestra Celebrate the Musical Splendor of Turn-of-the-Century Vienna. (WESTFIELD, NJ) -- The New Jersey Festival Orchestra (NJFO), under the baton of David you Wroe, invites you to step into the intoxicating musical world of turn-of-the-century Vienna.

Saturday, February 22 - Split Level Concert Series presents Maia Sharp and Antje Duvekot. (OCEAN GROVE, NJ) — Critically acclaimed singer/songwriters Maia Sharp and Antje Duvekot will co-headline a performance at the Jersey Shore Arts Center in Ocean Grove on Saturday, February 22, 2025. The show is part of the on-going Split Level Concert Series which highlights renowned Americana and contemporary folk musicians in a uniquely intimate setting. Showtime is 8:00pm.

Sunday, February 23 - Pianist Luther Allison Brings the Music of New Orleans to Audiences Across the Country. James Black was a New Orleans-based jazz drummer, little known outside of the Crescent City. James Carroll Booker III was called the "piano prince of New Orleans." Harold Battiste was a reedist and composer who worked closely with such artists as Ellis Marsalis, Sam Cooke, and Dr. John.

Sunday, February 23 - New Orleans Songbook: A Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents Production comes to Kean Stage on February 23rd. (HILLSIDE, NJ) -- Kean Stage presents New Orleans Songbook: A Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents Production at Enlow Recital Hall on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 7:00pm. This show brings the vibrant soul of New Orleans and the spirit of Mardi Gras to the heart of New Jersey with an all-new national tour paying tribute to the New Orleans Songbook, celebrating the legendary composers and timeless songs that define the Crescent City – the historic epicenter of jazz.

Led by Thorogood's gravelly vocals, the band which includes Jeff Simon, Bill Blough, Jim Suhler, and Buddy Leach, has been a staple on rock radio for decades.

Thursday, February 20 - Newton Theatre presents Lynch Mob: The Final Ride featuring Paralandra. (NEWTON, NJ) -- Lynch Mob: The Final Ride featuring Paralandra comes to The Newton Theatre on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 8:00pm. The band was formed by George Lynch in 1989 after the breakup of Dokken, his long time band of which he was a founding member and main song writer.

Friday, February 21 - Elvis Costello and Steve Nieve to Play Shows in Red Bank and Montclair. (MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- Fans of Elvis Costello have two chances to see the artist when his tour with Steve Nieve comes to New Jersey in February 2025.  They will be at the Count Basie Center for the Arts on Friday, February 21st and at The Wellmont Theater on Monday, February 24th.

Friday, February 21 - The Lords of 52nd Street return to Newton Theatre on February 21st. (NEWTON, NJ) -- The famed line-up that backed singer-songwriter Billy Joel for over a decade, The Lords of 52nd Street - Legends of Billy Joel Band is coming to The Newton Theatre on Friday, February 21, 2025. The band that helped establish Billy Joel's formidable sound and sell 150 million records is led by drummer/percussionist Liberty DeVitto and guitarist Russell Javors. Showtime is 8:00pm.

Saturday, February 22 - Lotus Land - The American Rush Tribute to Play Newton Theatre. (NEWTON, NJ) -- Lotus Land - The American Rush Tribute comes to The Newton Theatre on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 8:00pm. With an unparalleled performance, Lotus Land brings the force of live Rush to life on stage.

Sunday, February 23 - The Newton Theatre presents Skeleton Krewe. (NEWTON, NJ) -- Skeleton Krewe comes to The Newton Theatre on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 7:00pm. The worlds of Hawaiian slack key guitar, psychedelic pedal steel, and masterful keyboard work converge as three virtuosos of the jam band scene head out on their debut tour as Skeleton Krewe Trio.

Sunday, February 23 - The Discovery Orchestra to present "Discover Angelitos Negros", a Special Black History Month Concert with Songs, Opera Excerpts, Hispanic Folk Music and Spirituals. (NEWARK, NJ) -- The Discovery Orchestra (TDO), the Emmy Award-nominated and Telly Award-winning orchestra, which has introduced millions around the world to the rewards of classical music listening through its Discovery Concerts(TM), will present a special Black History Month performance this February.

Sunday, February 23 - Leonia Chamber Musicians presents "Romantic February" Concert. (LEONIA, NJ) -- The Leonia Chamber Musicians Society, Inc. perform their second concert of the 2024-2025 Season, "Romantic February", on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the Presbyterian Church in Leonia (181 Fort Lee Road). Admission is free, but a donation of $25 at the door is suggested. Showtime is 3:00pm.

Sunday, February 23 - New Jersey Youth Chorus Presents Men That Matter in Morristown. (MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- The New Jersey Youth Chorus (NJYC), a program of Wharton Arts, will present Men That Matter on February 23, 2025 at Morristown United Methodist Church located at 50 South Park Place in Morristown. The event is free. Showtime is 5:00pm.

An Interview with Al Schnier from moe.  On Thursday, February 27, 2025, Buffalo, NY based band, moe. will perform at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ. Then on Friday, February 28 and again on Saturday, March 1, moe. will head to Philadelphia, PA to perform two nights at Brooklyn Bowl. These shows are part of their winter tour celebrating the release of their new album, "Circle of Giants". I was able to speak with Al Schnier from moe. in anticipation of these shows.

PSO's New Chamber Music Series at Trinity Continues with the Valencia Baryton Project  (PRINCETON, NJ) -- Music of the baryton will be showcased at the next concert on the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO)'s new chamber music series at Trinity Church in Princeton. The Valencia Baryton Project performs works for baryton trio by Joseph Haydn on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 7:00pm.

bergenPAC presents Jim Messina on March 1st  (ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) presents Jim Messina on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 8:00pm. An undisputed expert in the fine art of making hit music, Messinas legacy of musical genius spans five decades, three super groups, a vibrant solo career and scores of producing and engineering credits.

Hamilton Stage at UCPAC presents The Sound of Bebop: Jazz from Juilliard  (RAHWAY, NJ) -- Hamilton Stage at UCPAC presents The Sound of Bebop: Jazz from Juilliard on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 5:30pm. This is performed by Juilliard's Duke Ellington Ensemble, and part of the Jazz from Juilliard concert series, is a production of The Juilliard School, which is world renowned for educating Jazz artists such as Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis, Jon Batiste and many others.

Harmonium Choral Society presents "Sing Me To Heaven" concerts in March  (MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Join the acclaimed 100-voice Harmonium Choral Society for their March concert on Saturday, March 1 at 7:30pm or Sunday, March 2 at 3:00pm at the Morristown United Methodist Church. The concert features Eleanor Daley's exquisite Requiem and works by Heinrich Schutz, Dave Matthews and Caldwell and Ivory's Ain’t No Grave.

Monmouth Civic Chorus presents Mendelssohn's Elijah  (COLTS NECK, NJ) -- The award-winning Monmouth Civic Chorus presents Mendelssohn's Elijah on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 4:00pm. This is the first full-length performance of this transcendent piece produced by the chorus since 2000.

NJPAC presents Patti LuPone: A Life in Notes  (NEWARK, NJ) -- Three-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone will be performing her latest show, "A Life In Notes," at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Showtime is 3:00pm.

State Theatre New Jersey presents Isabel Leonard & Pablo Sainz-Villegas In Recital  (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents Isabel Leonard & Pablo Sáinz-Villegas In Recital on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 3:00pm. Tickets range from $39-$79.

Annual Music Faculty Recital to be Presented at RVCC  (BRANCHBURG, NJ) -- Raritan Valley Community College's Arts & Design department will present the annual Music Faculty Recital, Sunday, March 2, 2025 in the Welpe Theatre at the College's Branchburg campus. Showtime is 2:30pm.

Morristown ONSTAGE 2025 Acts Announced  (MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- The Morris Educational Foundation (MEF) has announced the 16 acts that will perform in the 18th annual Morristown ONSTAGE fundraising event. Featuring the best amateur talent from Morristown, Morris Plains and Morris Township, the show will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at the Mayo Performing Arts Center (MPAC).

The Newton Theatre presents Pure Prairie League  (NEWTON, NJ) -- Pure Prairie League comes to The Newton Theatre on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 8:00pm. Now in their sixth decade, Pure Prairie League continues to lead the way for the new generation of Country/Rockers such as Keith Urban, Nickel Creek, Wilco, Counting Crows and so many others that cite PPL as a major influence.

The Town Hall presents Judy Collins and Friends: 85 Years of Music and Protest  (NEW YORK, NY) -- The legendary Judy Collins will present a star-studded 85th birthday celebration Judy Collins and Friends: 85 Years of Music and Protest at The Town Hall on March 8, 2025. The Newton Theatre presents Everclear on March 8th  (NEWTON, NJ) -- Everclear, one of the leading alternative rock bands to emerge from the '90s, comes to The Newton Theatre on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 8:00pm. The band celebrated their 30th Anniversary in recent years, and founder, vocalist and guitarist Art Alexakis has made it clear that he has no plans to slow down.

Princeton Symphony Orchestra To Perform with GRAMMY-Winning Sō Percussion  (PRINCETON, NJ) -- Fresh from their 2025 GRAMMY® win for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance, Sō Percussion will appear with Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) at concerts the weekend of March 8-9, 2025. The ensemble will perform Viet Cuong's concerto for percussion quartet, Re(new)al. Edward T. Cone Music Director Rossen Milanov conducts the program which includes Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F Major, Op. 68 "Pastoral" and Carlos Simon's Four Black American Dances. Both performances are at Richardson Auditorium, on the campus of Princeton University.

An Interview with Dan Kurtz of The New Deal

Formed in 1999, Toronto, Canada based trio The New Deal, is a pioneer in jam-based electronic music. The group was founded by remaining members Dan Kurtz (bass) and Jamie Shields (keys), along with Darren Shearer (drums) who left tND in 2011. Since its inception, tND has remained committed to its improvisational roots and has served as a model for other jamtronica bands bridging the gap between multiple music genres as well as the border between Canada and the United States.

Two NJ Jazz Musicians Will Play with The Jazz Ambassadors in Morristown

Pianist Anthony Pocetti grew up in Hamilton, NJ, studying piano, "doing sort of traditional piano lessons. I have an uncle who was always encouraging me to get into the jazz thing. He gave me the (Miles Davis) Kind of Blue CD, and he knew that the jazz pianist Jim Ridl was living in Hamilton."
