Dana Why releases "The Cracked Hand"

originally published: 06/28/2025

Dana Why is the musical alias of Dana Yurcisin, NJ-born and bred singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. A maximalist at heart, his productions are brimming with experimentation that span genres while retaining the strong melodic foundations of pop.

Having self-recorded and released four albums and two EPs between 2009 and 2019 under the name Static Sex, Yurcisin began releasing music under his own name in 2020, a shift that marked his growing comfort with bringing his voice to the forefront.

His third self-written, produced, mixed, and mastered LP, The Cracked Hand, takes his prismatic, genre-agnostic sound to new heights. A spiritual successor to his 2023 LP The Lyre, it’s a widescreen, hour-plus epic traversing house music rave-ups, gothic western twang, shoegaze grandeur, fuzzed-out hip hop, vocoder confessionals, and multi-stage sagas. It tackles everything from the role of art in the face of apocalypse, to whether love is enough, to enduring soul-crushing winters in a coastal beach town.

This is a headphones album for the hopeless hopeful, a blast-in-your-car album for the mentally unwell.

The Cracked Hand will be released on July 11, 2025 by Mint 400 Records.

“Dana Why has a good thing going, and if this new single is anything to go by – there’s no sign of him slowing down.” – Wonderland Magazine

“Dana Why’s sound knows no bounds. Born Dana Yurcisin, the dynamic recording artist is a maximalist at heart with a louder-than-life stage presence and attention-commanding vocals.” – Herb

“Trying to pigeonhole Dana Why’s sound into genres or even planes of existence, would be an exercise in futility. Imagine rock music, filtered through the lens of avant-garde pop, but played by a mad scientist…on drugs.” – Get Some Magazine

“It’s not every day we come by such a gifted, eager, and resilient act like Dana Why, who’s not afraid to push the boundaries and create a new lane.” – Buzz Music
