(MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- PEAK Performances at Montclair State University welcomes acclaimed choreographer Kyle Abraham and his celebrated contemporary dance company A.I.M for White Space, a haunting new evening-length work, co-commissioned by PEAK Performances, coming to Montclair State University on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 7:30pm.
Bringing together Abraham's distinctive movement language with an original collaborative score by acclaimed composers Jason Moran and Nico Muhly, White Space places 11 captivating dancers in a restless, thought-provoking world where reality and idealism collide.
At just over one hour, the work showcases Abraham's signature blend of classical and contemporary dance with a hip-hop underbelly. The score is performed live by two pianists sharing one piano, while echoes of pre-recorded hip-hop drive the movement and heighten the tension between the work's contrasting worlds.
The result is an immersive combination of movement and music from an artist whose work has helped shape contemporary dance over the past two decades. The New York Times has praised A.I.M for its "lush movement, infectious music and magnetic dancers."

The performance will be followed by a free coffee and dessert reception. A free bus from Manhattan to Montclair State University will be provided on a first come, first served basis for attendees who have purchased a ticket to the performance. A.I.M by Kyle Abraham celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2026, marking two decades at the forefront of contemporary dance. One of the most acclaimed touring dance companies in the world, A.I.M has been featured in Vogue, Essence and numerous other publications and appeared on the April 2025 cover of Harper's Bazaar.
Described as a "postmodern gumbo," the company is known for an ardent artistic voice and a creative process informed by robust conversations with people from diverse perspectives. A.I.M performs works by Abraham alongside new and existing works by choreographers who have influenced his artistry.
PEAK Performances develops, presents and produces a broad range of world-class dance, film, master classes, music, opera and music theater, talks and theater in the Alexander Kasser Theater on the campus of Montclair State University for students, faculty, staff and the public. Suzanne Vega will perform a career-spanning show including favorites like “Tom’s Diner”, “Luka”, “Marlene On The Wall”, and many more, plus songs from her latest album, Flying with Angels, which was released in May 2025 to critical acclaim. (MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- Outpost in the Burbs will present an extraordinary evening of music featuring singer-songwriter and guitarist Richard Thompson with Zara Phillips on Saturday, November 21, 2026 at the First Congregational Church in Montclair. The special concert will serve as a fundraiser in support of Toni's Kitchen, the Montclair based nonprofit dedicated to combating food insecurity and related challenges in Essex County and beyond.
