(WASHINGTON CROSSING, PA) -- Washington Crossing Historic Park (WCHP) in Pennsylvania plans to host an expanded Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, July 4, 2026 from 4:00pm to 9:30pm featuring immersive living history experiences, family-friendly activities, live music, and the return of fireworks over the Delaware River. Designed as a free community-wide celebration of America250, the event is intended to create a meaningful space for residents and visitors to commemorate this historic milestone year.

The Friends of Washington Crossing Park (FWCP) has launched a targeted fundraising effort to reach its $75,000 goal and challenges the public to contribute. The Gene and Marlene Epstein Foundation has pledged to match all donations up to $10,000 through June 4, doubling the impact of every contribution.

“I think of all the years that we have lived here in Bucks County and how WCHP has been instrumental in bringing individuals and communities together,” said Gene Epstein. “It’s our time to support this incredible resource. We encourage everyone to give what they can and are proud to match donations dollar for dollar, up to $10,000.”

The expanded celebration builds on WCHP’s role in local, state, and national Semiquincentennial initiatives, including participation with Bucks250PA, America250PA, and America250. FWCP continues to serve as a gathering place for educational programming and community engagement tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary. Throughout 2026, the organization will host major events and initiatives designed to bring new audiences into the story of America’s founding and Washington’s Crossing.

“As we prepare for the 250th anniversary, we are creating a space for our community to come together and celebrate in a truly meaningful way,” said Jennifer Martin, Executive Director of the FWCP. “This moment is an opportunity to honor the legacy of the Crossing while bringing people together, inspiring the next generation, and recognizing the generous support of donors and partners who help make this work possible.”

Visitors attending the Independence Day Celebration can expect a full evening of activities inspired by July 4, 1776, including Revolutionary War encampments, traditional craft demonstrations, dramatic readings of the Declaration of Independence, family activities, and interactive educational experiences designed to encourage civic engagement and historical exploration. The evening is expected to feature live music along the Delaware River and a large-scale fireworks display, reminiscent of the park’s popular shows from previous years.

Early support has already been provided by Colonel Level Supporters including Crown Holdings and The First National Bank & Trust Company of Newtown, helping build momentum around the initiative. Community support remains essential as planning continues. To make a gift and have it doubled through June 4, visit washingtoncrossingpark.org/donate.

The Friends of Washington Crossing Park shares the powerful story of General George Washington’s daring crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas Night 1776 and interprets its ongoing impact on world history for both today’s citizens and future generations. Through the fundraising and the generous support of our donors and members, we are able to maintain and sustain this significant historic site and welcome thousands of schoolchildren, families, individuals and groups every year. In partnership with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Friends offer guided interpretive tours and educational programming in the park. The group also holds a number of annual events, several fundraisers and more.
