(RUMSON, NJ) -- The Premier Theatre Company presents the musical 1776 in the Rumson School District Auditorium from June 26-28, 2026. Witness the birth of a nation as our forefathers struggle to craft the Declaration of Independence.
The seminal event in American history blazes to vivid life in this most unconventional of Broadway hits. 1776 puts a human face on the pages of history as we see the men behind the national icons: proud, frightened, uncertain, irritable, charming, often petty and ultimately noble figures, determined to do the right thing for a fledgling nation.
It's the summer of 1776, and the nation is ready to declare independence... if only our founding fathers can agree to do it! 1776 follows John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they attempt to convince the members of the Second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence.
1776 is a funny, insightful and compelling drama with a striking score and legendary book. It features Music and Lyrics by Sherman Edwards and Book by Peter Stone.
Performances take place Friday, June 26 at 7:30pm; Saturday, June 27 at 2:00pm & 7:30pm; and Sunday, June 28 at 2: 00pm. Tickets are available for purchase online. The Rumson School District Auditorium is located at 60 Forrest Avenue in Rumson, New Jersey.
Leading the production team is as Director is Kasi Sweeney, whose father starred as John Adams in Premier's original production of 1776 in 1992 The Music Director is Robert Sammond, the Choreographer is Donna Battaglia and the Producers are Kitty Cleary and Joe Malik. The cast includes Anthony Preuster as "Benjamin Franklin", Joseph Bryant as "John Adams" and Micah Schachet-Briskin as "Thomas Jefferson."
