(NUTLEY, NJ) -- On Sunday, March 29, 2026 at 7:00pm, Nutley Little Theatre presents a free staged reading of With a Capital C - an original script written by Drew University Alum, Lawrence Paone and directed by another Drew Alum and NLT member, Mead Winters. There will be a talkback with the author immediately following the performance.
The year is 1992 and Hank Decker, an average, single man, lives in the big city. He is having recurring dreams in which his childhood crush, Diane, is in some sort of trouble. Being the obsessive guy that he is, Hank sets out to locate Diane and hopefully start a romantic relationship with her, something he’s wanted since they were kids together.
Through some surrealistic coincidences, Hank discovers that Diane is a suburban Real Estate Agent, and he ventures out of the city to meet her. To get closer to Diane, Hank buys a house she is selling and quickly discovers that suburban life may be more dangerous and lonelier than life in the big city. Hank winds up witnessing oddball crimes in suburbia and is hauled into court as a star witness. Hank’s mental state begins to deteriorate.
The cast includes Rob Nicholson (Hank); Asuka Kimura (Diane); John Fraissinet (Chorus #1); Sheldon Stone (Chorus #2); Donna Fraissinet (Chorus #3); and LInda Wielkotz (Chorus #4). Diana Severineau as stage direction reader.
Nutley Little Theatre is located at 47 Erie Place in Nutley, New Jersey. This is a free event, but donations are welcome. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Please note, the theater is not handicap accessible.
For over fifteen years, NLT’s Readers’ Theatre has presented free staged readings to showcase a variety of classic and contemporary works. Originally developed by local director Penny Potenz Winship, each play is carefully curated to offer actors a creative challenge and audiences a unique experience.
They often choose works that are cutting-edge, unusual, or unlikely to be produced as a mainstage show at the Nutley Little Theatre. This may come down to topic, producibility, prohibitive performance rights, unpublished material, etc.––but one guarantee remains: Reader’s Theatre gives back to the community for their support and patronage of regular mainstage productions.
Moving forward they aim to increase their outreach and cater to the diverse community of northern New Jersey. They pledge to provide a space for voices that have historically been underrepresented on their stage for too long. Their Readers’ Theatre presentations will focus on presenting impactful works that explore, navigate, and elevate the diversity around us.
