Tony Wilson, a Chicago native and nationally recognized entertainer, was personally given the title “The Young James Brown” by James Brown himself in 1999 on the set of the digital film Funkblast. Since then, Tony has made it his life’s mission to preserve and perform the authentic concert experience of the Godfather of Soul—fulfilling a personal promise made to Mr. Brown.
Tony first appeared on stage with James Brown as a child at Chicago's Regal Theater in 1967. In 1999, he was selected by James Brown to portray him in Funkblast. In 2004, he portrayed James Brown in the film Beat the Devil. Two years later, he backed James Brown on what would be his final tour. Chosen as James Brown’s protégé, Tony learned firsthand what it takes to run a true James Brown show—and he brings that same energy, discipline, and soul to every performance.
