2025 New York Greek Film Expo to Kick Off with Screening of "Murphy's Law"

(ASTORIA, NY) -- Hellenic Film Society (HFS) kicks off its annual New York Greek Film Expo, a Greek film festival for all New Yorkers, with a special Opening Night Screening and Reception on October 2, 2025 at the Directors Guild Theater in Manhattan. Tickets are now available for purchase on the HFS's website.

On Thursday, October 2, HFS launches the festival with an Opening Night Reception, followed by the US premiere of the comedy Murphy’s Law, starring award-winning actors Katia Goulioni and Andreas Konstantinou, two of Greece’s most renowned actors and directed by Angelos Frantzis. All three will be in attendance and participate in a Q&A with the audience.

In a bravura performance, Katia Goulioni plays a failed, deeply conflicted, actress longing for major roles. A serious accident on her 40th birthday thrusts her into an alternate reality where she must play the parts that could have been hers had she made different choices in life. Termed by its producers as a “psychoanalytic screwball comedy,” the film, with its frantic pace and mixing of genres and tones, is as unpredictable as it is flamboyantly original. For this role, Goulioni was nominated for Best Actress by the Hellenic Film Academy.

The film also stars Victoria Elizabeth Bitouni; 2024 Expo host Thanos Tokakis; Constantine Makroulakis; the legendary, award-winning Vangelio Andreadaki; Daphne Alexander; and Nikos Kouros.

Tickets are available for the premiere and reception, or the screening only. Reception begins at 5:00pm; screening at 7:00pm. Reception capacity is limited. Don’t miss your chance to meet the director and stars and celebrate the opening of New York Greek Film Expo 2025! The Directors Guild Theater is located at 110 W 57 St in Manhattan. For tickets, schedules, and further information, please visit www.hellenicfilmsociety.org.

The Hellenic Film Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Greek cinema and sharing the richness of Greek films with American audiences. Based in Astoria, NY, HFS presents an array of feature films, documentaries, and shorts by Greek filmmakers and those of Greek descent, as well as works that highlight the cultures of Greece and Cyprus.

In addition to its annual New York Greek Film Expo, a Greek film festival for all New Yorkers, the Society is known for its ongoing Always on Sunday monthly film series, presented in collaboration with the prestigious Museum of the Moving Image. Additionally, the organization partners with other prominent film festivals across the United States, including the Chicago Greek Film Expo, the South Florida Greek Film Festival, and the Atlanta Greek Film Expo.
