Film Screening, Medical Panel to Kick Off Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Stockton

originally published: 09/10/2025

(ATLANTIC CITY, NJ) -- Stockton University Atlantic City will host "Link to Pink," a film screening and panel discussion with local medical professionals to kickoff Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at 1:00pm.

“Link to Pink” is open to the public and will include the screening of the award-winning film, “Love, Danielle,” followed by a Q&A with Devin Sidell, co-writer and star, and Amy Byer Shainman, executive producer and the BRCA Responder. The film was recently selected as part of the Garden State Film Festival’s “Best of the Fest” outreach program.

A panel discussion with local genetic counselors and medical professionals from AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute, South Jersey Breast Cancer Coalition, who specialize in breast cancer and BRCA gene mutations, and Breast Center of New Jersey (BCNJ) - comprised of doctors affiliated with The Premier Surgical Network, The Institute for Advanced Reconstruction and The Plastic Surgery Center, will take place after the screening. Also, information and representatives from local organizations such as Stockton University’s Wellness Center, JScreen Genetic Screening and Cancer Support Community NJ at Gilda’s Club, will be available to answer questions and offer resources.

This is a free event, though donations for Stockton’s Food Pantry will be accepted. The event will take place in the Fannie Lou Hamer Room located in the John F. Scarpa Academic Center at 3711 Atlantic Ave., Atlantic City. Free parking is available.

Register for the event here. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Inspired by Sidell’s real-life experience, “Love, Danielle” follows Danielle (Sidell), a bakery owner navigating the life-altering choice of removing her breasts and ovaries to reduce her cancer risk after testing positive for a BRCA gene mutation. Her older sister Amy (Jamie King) is already undergoing chemotherapy for a breast cancer diagnosis, adding urgency to Danielle’s journey. As she contemplates what to do, Danielle juggles her marriage and her relationship with her recovering alcoholic mother (Lesley Ann Warren) and self-absorbed TV star father (Barry Bostwick). What unfolds is a story of personal agency, family dynamics and learning to listen to your inner voice.

“Love, Danielle” was made possible by the generous support of private donations, grants and support from Mentor Own the Day and Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, through its fiscal sponsor, Cinefemme.

The Garden State Film Festival is New Jersey's Premier Independent Film Festival®, dedicated to showcasing exceptional independent cinema from around the world while supporting local filmmakers and community initiatives. Now in its 24th year, the GSFF, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is a global destination festival that stimulates economic growth in New Jersey through the arts. "Best of the Fest" is an outreach program designed by GSFF to promote and celebrate independent film and filmmakers throughout New Jersey, while also providing an opportunity to culturally enrich and engage communities.
