(PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ) -- Since launching on May 20, 2025, Passaic County MOVE, a new on-demand microtransit service available to anyone in Passaic and Clifton, has completed more than 3,300 rides, offering free, flexible, and convenient transportation to all members of the community.
With strong public interest and growing usage, County officials are encouraging residents to take advantage of free rides before fares begin on June 21. After that date, each ride will cost just $1.80, remaining one of the most affordable transportation options in the region.
“We’ve already surpassed expectations in just the first few weeks of operation,” said Passaic County Commissioner John W. Bartlett. “We’re thrilled to see so many people using Passaic County MOVE to get to work, connect to transit, and take care of everyday errands. This shows exactly why we invested in this innovative program and we’re just getting started.”
The app-based* service allows riders to book low-cost, on-demand shared rides within a designated service zone covering the cities of Passaic and Clifton. All rides are currently free as part of the program’s introductory period.
“Passaic residents are benefiting in real, measurable ways from this new service,” said Mayor Hector C. Lora of the City of Passaic. “Whether it’s for commuting, doctor visits, or grocery trips, Passaic County MOVE is already making transportation more accessible for everyone. Even when the $1.80 fare begins, it remains an economical option that helps our residents move forward.”
The service is available Monday through Friday, 6:00am to 8:00pm, and is open to anyone in the service zone, no eligibility restrictions or special requirements. Riders can download the Passaic County MOVE app from the App Store or Google Play to book their trip in seconds. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles and door-to-door service for those with mobility needs are also available. Those without smartphone access can call 973-791-0756 to book a ride by phone.
