From Privilege to Purpose: An Evening with HRH Crown Prince Manvendra

originally published: 05/14/2025

(WHIPPANY, NJ) -- Harmonium Choral Society is hosting an evening of music and conversation with HRH Crown Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil and his husband, HH Prince deAndre, Duke of Hanumanteshwar, on their 2025 USA PRIDE MONTH TOUR: Human Rights Advocacy, on Friday, June 13, 2025 at the Ukrainian American Cultural Center (60 N Jefferson Rd) in Whippany. Showtime is 7:00pm.

As India’s first openly gay royal and a direct descendant of one of India’s oldest dynasties, Prince Manvendra’s story made international news in 2006 when he came out as a homosexual, his family disowned him, and effigies of him were burned in public. Today, he is an internationally recognized human rights advocate.  His journey is a testament to courage, resilience, and the power of truth.

The prince’s inspiring story will be interwoven with several musical selections.  Harmonium singers, directed by Anne Matlack, will be joined by flutist Kris Lamb and the prince who will play the harmonium, an Indian musical instrument. Light refreshments will be provided by Jim Knight of Michelin Flavors Catering.

The prince’s husband, an American by birth, and part of the first same-sex royal marriage in modern history, will join Prince Manvendra to share moments from their time together, which are highlighted in their recently published memoir, A Royal Commitment: Ten Years of Marriage and Activism.  Although they will not be traveling with books, they are happy to sign books for those who have them.

Together, HRH Prince Manvendra and HH Prince DeAndre continue to champion human rights, breaking barriers and reshaping history through advocacy, education, and lived experience. This tour extends beyond literary promotion; it is a movement for activism, advocacy, and leadership in the ongoing fight for global equality.
