Local Poets Invited to Submit Poetry for Mercer County Library System's 4th Annual "A Poetry Happening: Mercer Poets Read"

Local poets and poetry enthusiasts are invited to submit and share their work for a special virtual poetry reading, an event celebrating the power of words and creative expression. Organized by Mercer County Library System, this online gathering offers a platform for poets to share their voices with a wider audience.

Poets of all experience levels are welcome to submit poems by Monday, April 21 via email to [email protected].  Poets will have the opportunity to present their pieces during a live virtual event on Monday, April 28 at 7:00pm.

“We’re proud that our libraries continue to support the creativity and talent of our residents,” said County Executive Dan Benson. “This event celebrates our ability to connect and find meaning through the power of words.”

A Poetry Happening: Mercer Poets Read is taking place virtually on Monday, April 28 at 7:00pm.  All are welcome to join them for a celebration of National Poetry Month. Chip McAuley, poet and Hopewell Librarian, will host an evening of poetry, with local poets reading their own work or a favorite published poem.

(WASHINGTON, DC) -- After months of competitions in classrooms and communities nationwide, the 2026 Poetry Out Loud National Finals will take place April 28–29 in Washington, DC. Reciting poetry from an anthology that celebrates historic American voices in recognition of America's 250th anniversary, state and jurisdictional champions will compete for the national champion title and a $20,000 cash prize. Joy Ogunsakin, a senior from Trinity Hall in Tinton Falls, will be representing New Jersey.
