(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- The chance to reunite with his parents after years of painful separation brought nine-year-old Javier Zamora three thousand miles from El Salvador to the U.S., with perils that defied his imagination and challenged his endurance. The experience unfolds in his poignant memoir Solito. He’ll discuss it during two upcoming Ocean County Library Virtual Author Talks.

Javier will conduct a talk in Spanish on Saturday, November 9 at 2:00pm, followed by one in English on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 4:00pm. Solito a New York Times bestseller, is available in print, audiobook, eBook and eAudiobook formats at the Ocean County Library.

Young Javier’s parents fled the ravages of the Salvadoran Civil War several years apart, all before he turned five years of age. Four years later, he left his grandparents to band together with strangers for a journey that he hoped would last no more than two weeks.

His trek extended to two months, with oppressive desert wanderings, treacherous boat trips, arrests, deceptions and weapons as well as unexpected, generous acts of kindness and love.

Please register online to attend either of the free programs, to view the upcoming schedule, and to view previous talks. Registrants will may submit questions when signing up and will receive links to the program by email.
