(PRINCETON, NJ) -- On Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 7:30pm, the 2024-25 season of the Westminster Conservatory Faculty Recital Series will open with a multimedia presentation "山水畫 – Chinese Landscapes in Music, Poetry, and Painting." The recital will take place in Hillman Performance Hall (101 Walnut Lane) in Princeton. The recital is open to the public and free of charge.

The performers include Westminster Conservatory faculty members Fang-Ting Liu, piano; Dr. Even Rong Ma, cello; and Dr. Timothy Urban, voice and instrument. Dr. Shunzhu Wang of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Rider University will serve as the reciter. Slideshow presentations were curated by Maggy Lu.

The program is the fourth in a multimedia series that began in 2012 in which three art forms inspired by the Chinese landscape, poetry, song and painting are brought together. Famous Chinese poems are both sung and recited to an accompanying slideshow of Chinese calligraphy, landscape paintings. and photographs related to the texts of the poem.

The program will include recitation and singing of poetry by renowned poets including Li Bai (701-762), Wang Wei (699-759), Su Sher (1037-1101), Li Qingzhao (1084-ca.1155), Liu Bannong (1891-1934), and selections from the Book of Songs (1046-256 BCE). The backdrop of projected images of the Chinese landscape will include landscape paintings by such renowned artists as Wu Zheng (1280-1354) and Huang Gongwang (1269-1354).

Established in 1970, Westminster Conservatory is the community music school of Rider University.
