originally published: 07/06/2024

(WAYNE, NJ) -- Shea Center for the Performing Arts presents The Tia Fuller Trio on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 7:30pm. A force in the musical words of jazz, pop and R&B, Tia Fuller had completed a Master's degree in Jazz Pedagogy and Performance when she was selected to tour with pop star Beyoncé. Fuller became a featured soloist on Beyoncé's tours and performances across the globe, making many DVDs and recordings with the pop icon.

Fuller has gone on to record five full-length projects with her quartet, including her most recent Grammy-nominated album, Diamond Cut. She has performed and recorded with a who's who of jazz, including Terri Lyne Carrington, Esperanza Spalding, Dianne Reeves, Ralph Peterson, Rufus Reid, Wycliff Gordon, T.S. Monk, the late Aretha Franklin, Nancy Wilson, and Geri Allen, among many others.

She has received Critic's Poll awards from the JazzTimes for best alto saxophonist in 2018, and Downbeat for Rising Star. A full-time professor at the Berklee College of Music, Fuller has a media presence as a model in an advertising campaign for national women's retailer J.Jill. Come and bask in the music of a strong role-model for young jazz musicians, and an exuberant and light-filled spirit!

Eddie

Eddie Skuller to pay tribute to Tom Waits in Hoboken

(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- Looking for the heart of Saturday night? Find it in Hoboken on Saturday, May 10, 2025 when the 503 Social Club presents singer/songwriter Eddie Skuller's tribute to the "Ballads of Tom Waits." Skuller explores the dark, poetic world of Tom Waits with diverse selections from his extensive catalog. Although Skuller's amber-saturated vocals contrast with Wait's raucous gravel-like voice, there is a connection channeled through the music's emotional depth and lyrical intensity. Skuller can forge a deep, powerful bond with his audience, which enhances the tragic expression at the core of Waits' music.

On Banjo

'On Banjo' with Alison Brown

There was a time when I would have told you that my knowledge of the banjo was limited to whom I considered one of the most famous banjo players, who also happens to be my favorite musical amphibian, Mr. Kermit The Frog. "The Rainbow Connection" a la "The Muppet Movie" as performed by the little green dude, the world's greatest producer, was my first introduction to the string instrument and will forever hold a special place in my heart.
