Theater League of Clifton to Hold Auditions for "Murder on the Menu"

(CLIFTON, NJ) -- The Theater League of Clifton will hold auditions for its 2024 summer dinner/theater production of Murder on the Menu. Auditions for the comedy/murder mystery will be held May 30 and 31 from 7:00pm-9:00pm at Mario’s Restaurant (710 Van Houten Avenue) in Clifton. Call backs, if necessary, will be held on June 3 from 7:00pm-9:00pm.

The cast features four women and three men of various age groups. The full character breakdown is shown below.

Maren Sugarman will direct the show. She directed recent Theater League productions of Man of La Mancha and Oliver. John Traier and Prashant Arora will serve as the producers of the show. Bill Hand is the playwright. Mark Peterson is the president of the Theater League.

Five performances of the comedy will be held at Mario’s Restaurant on July 20, 21, 27, 28 and August 4, 2024.

Founded in 2005, the Theater League of Clifton is a non-profit community organization dedicated to fostering an appreciation of the arts through theatrical performances, while providing quality entertainment for all ages. The Theater League of Clifton welcomes volunteers in all aspects of performance and production.

BERNIE JONES (Male 20s-30s): Artemus Ward’s young nephew; insecure and from the wrong side of the tracks; works in the Ward Books Publishing mailroom

EILEEN MORROW (Female 40s-60s): Artemus Ward’s attorney-at-law and executor of his will; crisp and professional

JEANNIE DELL (Female 20s-30s): young owner of The Manor, a barely surviving but tasteful little restaurant

ALEXIS WARD-REGENT-MIDDLEFIELD-ABERNATHY-GILLICUDDY-BOSKOWICZ (Female 40s-50s): Artemus Ward’s oft-widowed, Dickinson quoting daughter; she and her brother are heirs to Ward Books Publishing

REGINALD WARD (Male 40s-60s): Artemus Ward’s son; cold and scheming; heir with his sister to Ward Books Publishing

DR. BULLFINGER (Female 30s-40s): the ambitious but questionably qualified, newly elected county coroner

MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR (Male 20s-40s): an ambitious and quick-thinking journalist whose father was a big fan of Joseph Heller’s “Catch-22”

ARTEMUS WARD (Elderly Male. May be played by same actor as Major, using old age makeup): murder victim (has one monologue before death); philanthropic, cranky, and opinionated owner of Ward Books Publishing
