New Hope-based, Jersey Shore-raised independent singer-songwriter Eli Sannelli, who goes by the stage name cr0wcallz, will release his debut single, “haunted heart,” on March 13 via his own The Nest record label. The single can be pre-saved here.
The ambient break-up song not only was written and performed entirely by cr0wcallz, but he also recorded, produced, mixed and mastered the track in his bedroom on a laptop with Logic Pro X software. The results are fittingly haunting, mesmerizingly cathartic and impressively professional.
“Sometimes toxic bonds stick around in the form of obsessiveness and other uncomfortable feelings even if the relationship has ended, and I was having a hard time addressing them,” cr0wcallz said. “I named it ‘Haunted Heart’ to sound like a haunted house, as if I had ghosts lingering around in my subconscious still. I love anything that has an eerie-ness to it, and whatever genres blend to make that vibe, that’s what I go with. I’m proud of it as my first release. For these three years of learning to produce, I’ve been mostly isolated, so this is such an honor and a pleasure to be able to finally start sharing some work with an audience.”
The 21-year-old artist has a varied musical approach that at times is an acoustic singer-songwriter style, but he also produces a techno sound. The single is a mix of both, he said.
He plans to play an acoustic version of the song live in a set that will showcase his singer-songwriter style, but he’s also working on an EP that will feature ambient synthesizers, dreamy vocals, and deep subwoofer/trap drum beats.
“I like to make use of sound effects to add to the listener experience, so look out for more of that,” cr0wcallz said.
