(PLAINSBORO, NJ) -- The Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra presents pianist Sean Chen, bronze medalist of the highly prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Mr. Chen will be featured in a performance of the Beethoven “Emperor” Piano Concerto No. 5. The concert will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 7:00pm at the Princeton Alliance Church in Plainsboro, New Jersey. The Princeton Alliance Church is located at 20 Schalks Crossing (corner of Scudders Corner Road and Schalks Crossing), Plainsboro, NJ.
Sean Chen has played before audiences around the world in solo and chamber recitals, concerto performances, and masterclasses. After winning the 2013 American Pianists Award, placing third at the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, and being named an Annenberg Fellow, Chen is now a Millsap Artist in Residence at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory.
Sean Chen has performed with orchestras across the country, including Fort Worth, San Diego, Indianapolis, and Philadelphia. His performances have brought him to major venues worldwide, including Boston, New York City, Washington, D.C., Taipei, Amsterdam, and Paris. Chen has been featured in both live and recorded performances broadcast across the country, and has been heard on NPR’s From the Top and American Public Media’s Performance Today. Sean Chen resides in the suburbs of Kansas City with his wife Betty Zhou, a violinist from New Jersey, and their daughters Ella and Maeve. When he is not at the piano, Chen enjoys working with computers and exploring math, science, and software programming. Chen is a Steinway Artist and is managed by Jonathan Wentworth Associates, Ltd.
Also featured in the concert will be a 14-year-old violinist, Lauren Yoon, a winner of the 2020 Bravura Young Artists Concerto Competition. Lauren was the youngest finalist of the Stulberg International Competition in 2021. Yoon made her orchestral debut at the age of 8 with the New York Concerto Sinfonietta, performing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at the Carnegie Weill Hall. In addition to solo works, Yoon enjoys playing chamber and orchestral music.
The Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra will also perform Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, known as the “Fate Symphony.” Tchaikovsky expresses how his feelings toward fate through one of the greatest symphonic masterpieces.
