Inside Algonquin Arts Theatre's 2023-2024 Season
 

(MANASQUAN, NJ) -- Algonquin Arts Theatre has announced their 2023-2024 Broadway Series featuring six musicals and two plays. Algonquin begins the summer with one of the world's most beloved musicals, The Sound of Music followed by the Tony Award-winning Avenue Q, an adults-only musical featuring puppets and actors. In October, Algonquin Arts Theatre presents their premiere of The Hunchback of Notre Dame based on the Victor Hugo novel with the beloved Disney music. Just in time for the holidays and back by popular demand is ELF: The Musical based on the 2003 film. In the winter, the theatre will present two thrilling plays, Ira Levin's murder mystery/comedy Deathtrap and Stephen King's Misery (adapted by William Goldman). The 2023-2024 season will close with two of the most popular musicals of all time, Fiddler on the Roof and Grease!

George Street Playhouse presents "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"
 

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- George Street Playhouse (GSP) announces its spring musical comedy event-- the Broadway/Off-Broadway hit The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Performances of this fresh and newly conceived production begin March 14th and continue through April 9th at the Arthur Laurents Theater at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center. Tickets are now on sale.

McCarter Theatre Center Partners with Princeton University to Showcase Performance Pieces Inspired by the Toni Morrison Papers
 

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- The McCarter Theatre, the Tony Award-winning performing arts center on the campus of Princeton University, will premiere a set of commissioned performances on March 24 and 25, 2023 as part of a robust calendar of campus-wide programming celebrating the acclaimed author Toni Morrison’s (1931–2019) life and legacy. The performances are the result of collaborations with McCarter’s Associate Artistic Director Nicole A. Watson and Autumn Womack, curator of Princeton University Library’s exhibition Toni Morrison: Sites of Memory and assistant professor of English and African American Studies. Multidisciplinary artists Daniel Alexander Jones and Mame Diarra Samantha Speis visited the University Library’s Toni Morrison Papers archive, a large trove of personal papers, letters, manuscripts and objects that were acquired by the University in 2014 to inspire original creations.

Buster Williams, Camden Native and International Jazz Musician to be Honored by IDEA Center for the Arts and Rutgers University
 

(CAMDEN, NJ) -- The rich life and achievements of Buster Williams, the legendary Grammy nominated jazz bassist will be honored on Saturday, March 18th at 5:00pm at the Rutgers University Gordon Theater. Featuring the Buster Williams Trio, the concert recognizes Mr. Williams contributions to the music industry, and will also be a fundraiser for increased Music Education for Camden youth.

 



Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey to Present "Images and Imagination"
 

(VOORHEES, NJ) -- On February 26th at 3:00pm, the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey will present "Images and Imagination" a journey through major symphonic works by illustrious French composers Debussy, Lalo and Berlioz. This program, including Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique, Nuages and Fêtes from Debussy's Nocturnes, and Lalo's Cello Concerto, will be led by Music Director Candidate David Bernard, Music Director of the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, the Massapequa Philharmonic Orchestra and the Eglevsky Ballet. The soloist in the Lalo will be the renowned cellist Adrian Daurov.

 



Country-Rock Pioneers Pure Prairie League Bring Influential Sound to the Concert Stage
 

Their sound was a staple of the '70s and early '80s, that melodic mixture of country-rock laced with FM radio pop. Pure Prairie League, with its crisp, clean harmonies and breezy songs, were innovative purveyors of that style. The band not only enjoyed commercial success, but also cemented its reputation as an early influence for future luminaries such as Keith Urban, Nickel Creek, Wilco, and Counting Crows.

 



Music Teachers "Save the Music" with benefit for public music education at Teaneck's Debonair Music Hall
 

(TEANECK, NJ) -- Four area bands featuring high school and college music educators performing original music will show their support for the power of music education with the benefit concert Teachers Make Music, a fundraising event for the Save the Music Foundation at Debonair Music Hall in Teaneck on Saturday, March 11th. Save the Music is a national non-profit organization helping school districts and communities build sustainable music programs through advocacy, instrument and equipment donations, and support services for teachers.

 



Makin Waves Album of the Month: "Pine Barrens, Volume One" by Jackson Pines
 

Jackson Pines have lived up to their name with some of the best folk-rock ever to come out of Jersey, especially since the duo of singer-songwriter-guitarist Joe Makoviecki and stand-up bassist James Black have expanded into an energetic combo that live often includes Max Carmichael on banjo, mandolin and flute and the great Cranston Dean on drums and mandolin, plus fiddler James Herdman in the studio.

Asbury Park and South Orange Will Host Arthouse Film Festival

Seeking NJ Locals to Appear as Extras in Feature Film
 

A high school movie musical feature film from Paramount Pictures will be filming in Middletown, NJ area. New York City-based Grant Wilfley Casting, Inc. is now seeking locals to appear as extras in the film.

 



2023 United States Super 8 Film & DV Festival begins this Saturday, February 18
 

The 2023 United States Super 8 Film & DV Festival (which is part of the Spring 2023 New Jersey Film Festival) will be screening all three of its programs online for 24 hours. Two are on Saturday, February 18 and one Sunday, February 19, 2023. There will also be two in-person screenings at 5PM on Saturday and at 5PM on Sunday in Voorhees Hall #105/Rutgers University, 71 Hamilton Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.

The Art House Gallery presents "Moments and Measure" new work by Mark Kurdziel
 

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Art House Productions presents new work by Mark Kurdziel in the Art House Gallery, March 3- 26, 2023. Kurdziel is an artist based in Jersey City using oil paint and oil distemper. His work combines plastic pictorial ideas and personal poetic concerns by using form, color, and space through metaphor to express the poetry, mystery, and melancholy of our shared existence.
