The Andy Krikun band (L-R) Andy Krikun, Peter Furlan, Vinnie Cutro, Gareth Dylan Smith, Jeff Doctorow, Rod Shepard
(TEANECK, NJ) -- Four area bands featuring high school and college music educators performing original music will show their support for the power of music education with the benefit concert Teachers Make Music, a fundraising event for the Save the Music Foundation at Debonair Music Hall in Teaneck on Saturday, March 11th. Save the Music is a national non-profit organization helping school districts and communities build sustainable music programs through advocacy, instrument and equipment donations, and support services for teachers.
Headlining the evening will be Draff, the original songwriting project of bassist Andrew Pfaff (music teacher at Bergen County Applied Tech High School), who will perform “neo-psychedelic” rock originals, at times evoking Tame Impala, Flaming Lips, and XTC.
The Black Light Bastards, featuring drummer and Boston University music professor Gareth Dylan Smith along with New Jersey musicians Ingrid Larsen and Yoav Sassoun will demonstrate their sonic explosion of post punk, new wave, and next wave where synths, bass and drums serve it up.
Dr. Smith also joins two Bergen Community College professors and songwriters, Andy Krikun and Dan Sheehan. The Andy Krikun Band, led by singer-songwriter and music professor Dr. Andy Krikun, features an eclectic coterie of accomplished musicians blending a variety of genres including rock, R&B, soul, reggae, ska, and jazz. The band includes fellow music educators Rod Shepard on bass, Divinity Montijo on vocals, and the trumpet/sax horn duo of Vinnie Cutro and Peter Furlan. Also performing will be BCC student Georgia Allaker-Cassidy and Rockland County guitarist Jeff Doctorow.
Krikun and his band members will also back Prof. Dan Sheehan to open the show previewing songs from his rock concert experience The Seas Are Rising (being debuted in full format at Bergen Community College’s Ciccone Theatre on April 20th) with a mini-set of songs from the show focusing on environmental themes and the urgent need to battle climate change.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Doors open at 6:00pm. Tickets are available for purchase online. Doors open at 6:00pm, showtime is 7:00pm. Debonair Music Hall is located at 1409 Queen Anne Road in Teaneck, New Jersey.
