The ShowRoom to celebrate 50th anniversary of "The Poseidon Adventure"

originally published: 01/18/2023

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The Poseidon Adventure launched a film genre when it was released on December 13, 1972. The ShowRoom will celebrate this 50th annivesary milestone with a one night only screening Friday, January 27 at 7:30pm. Tickets are available now at showroomcinemas.com.

Disaster movies in the 1970’s featured a string of natural and man-made disasters: meteors, earthquakes and swarms of bees; rogue blimps, burning skyscrapers and captain-less planes. But none of those could compete with the original: an upside-down cruise ship and an all star cast, making their way to the hull in an against all odds attempt at escape.

If you are like the folks at The ShowRoom, you have seen this movie more than once and know who makes it out and who meets a sad, sometimes grisly demise. But it does hold up to repeated viewings. The sets and special effects are well done, the suspense is real, and the actors are totally commited to the project. See it with us again - or for the first time - on the big screen, the way it was meant to be seen.

The ShowRoom Cinema, Asbury Park’s independent movie theater, is located at 707 Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
