Fundraiser aims to help NJ Musician with recovery from stroke

originally published: 01/10/2023

(HIGHLANDS, NJ) -- On  Friday, January 20th from 7:00pm-2:00am, The Chubby Pickle is hosting an event to support their friend Riley Schiro in his recovery from a stroke. A free show with a stellar live music lineup will raise money with 50/50s, gift baskets, and more. Every penny will go towards providing Riley with the best possible care available - giving him a fighting chance for a full recovery.

The show is a music lover's dream as Cranston Dean, Daly Rituals, The Mercury Brothers, Patty C & the Pints, and Emerson Woolf will come together with the expected sizable turnout and make for an unforgettable night. It was organized by the Chubby PIckle staff, Dan Lee and fellow musicians Cranston Dean, and Pat Conley, who saw Riley struggling with ongoing out-of-pocket expenses for occupational therapy. While he has made an amazing recovery, he still has a long way to go. "Riley celebrates his 35th birthday this month and this is our gift to him.  Not only to raise money, but to show him how much he means to us  with a bar full of love," says Conley.

We may even see Riley take to the stage to show off the progress he has made so far. "I need to play guitar again,” said Schiro. “I need to get my strength back to go hiking again and do the things I love that I’m not able to do right now. While I am grateful to be alive, I miss making music.” Making music is where it all starts for Riley, and he's been part of the close-knit Jersey music community for over a decade. It's clear from the response so far that they are behind him 100%. "Riley’s hugs are magic - we're ready to bring a little of that magic back to him!” says Lauren Boots, another close friend of Riley’s.

The venue staff are donating their tips, the musicians are donating their pay, and there is a suggested (not required) $20 donation at the door. Businesses and individuals have donated a ukulele, an Ibanez Les Paul guitar for auction and there will be additional auction products on-site from sponsors like Telegraph Hill Records, Twin Lights Brewery, Leonardo Jewelers, Turning Point and more.

The Chubby Pickle is located at 23 Bay Avenue in Highlands, New Jersey.  For additional information on the show, visit the Facebook event page.
