"The Jersey Storm: Sandy in Monmouth County" premieres Friday at Monmouth University

originally published: 10/26/2022

(WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- As this week marks the 10th Anniversary of Superstorm Sandy’s landfall, Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon has announced the premiere of The Jersey Storm: Sandy in Monmouth County film will take place this Friday, October 28 at 1:30pm at the Pollak Theater at Monmouth University and is open to the public to attend. The 20-minute historical documentary will be presented as part of Monmouth University’s Superstorm Sandy Anniversary events.

In an effort to preserve the history of Superstorm Sandy’s impact on Monmouth County, the film by New York Emmy Award-Winning Director Adam Worth and the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, focuses on the County’s preparations, reactions, and reconstruction efforts resulting from the storm. It features never-before-seen footage taken in the aftermath of Sandy and interviews with Monmouth County officials, first responders, and others who lived through it.

“Since the Monmouth County Clerk is responsible for maintaining records significant to Monmouth County history, I am proud to have produced this documentary to preserve this chapter in our County history,” said Clerk Hanlon.

The film also serves as part of the Monmouth County Clerk’s Archives Division’s Superstorm Sandy Archive, which is collecting and storing digital photographs and official documentation of preparation and recovery efforts of the storm.

In addition to this month marking the 10th Anniversary of the storm, October is also American Archives Month, which calls attention to the importance of archiving historically significant information.
