(NEWARK, NJ) -- United Community Corporation’s Harvest Fest comes to Newark’s North Ward on Wednesday, October 26 at Phillips Park, providing various community resources as the cold weather months approach while offering fun activities for families. The event will take place from 3:00pm-6:00pm.
The event will feature live music entertainment by DJ Alvarez, a fresh produce distribution, free costumes for children donated by JerseyCares & Father Gulya, and winter coats donated by Helpsy while supplies last. Additionally, UCC is hosting a Trunk-or-Treat at the festival where free treats will be given out to youth.
Phillips Park is located at 130 Elwood Avenue in Newark, New Jersey.
Alongside the autumn fun and entertainment, UCC is committed to meeting the needs of Newark residents as well as surrounding areas. UCC officials and local partners will be present on-site at the event to provide community members with important services and resources.
UCC received key support from the City of Newark and Amerigroup for the event.
“The City of Newark is proud to partner with UCC for its Harvest Fest in order to bring the community together this fall season,” Newark Deputy Mayor of Community Engagement Jacqueline Quiles said. “The event will not only offer activities for everyone to enjoy, but it also serves as an important outreach event to Newark residents of all ages. We encourage them to come out to Harvest Fest.”
“As an organization founded out of the Great Society in the 1960s, UCC has a long history of providing services to Newark residents,” North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr. said. “Most recently, UCC has partnered with a number of organizations including my office at initiatives addressing food insecurity and hunger. We are proud to support UCC's Harvest event which will take place in the North Ward.”
“As a North Newark native, I’m proud to see the amazing collaborations we are having on the Northside of our city,” UCC Housing Assistance Program Manager Tabatha Perez said. “We invite everyone to join us for a fun-filled Harvest Fest with activities for all ages and so much more. Be sure to stop by our Housing Department table with any questions about our programs or just to say hello.”
Wednesday’s event would not be possible without generous sponsorship from Amerigroup.
“Amerigroup is committed to improving lives and health, and we are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the UCC and the City of Newark to provide needed resources and services to the communities we serve,” Amerigroup Director of Member Experience and Growth Anya Nawrocky said.
UCC Director of Youth, Family & Senior Services Yolanda Loney added that Harvest Fest is an opportunity for community members to celebrate and connect with one another, noting that community events are often the only place residents can find a link to needed services.
“This year our Harvest Fest will include something for the entire family,” Loney said. “Youth will be able to take part in a trunk or treat and face painting in a safe environment. At the same time, parents get help with urgent needs such as housing and energy assistance.”
