(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Illuminihilation has released the debut video for “Never-Named” New Album - Shattered Shields, Pt 1 is out now. Illuminihilation is the primary creative outlet of Jersey City-based guitarist, vocalist and songwriter John Gnesin (ex-Relapse/Earache Records).
Shattered Shields, Pt 1 - a debut album decades in the making, featuring 12 songs of metallic hardcore and punk rock, was recorded with Colin Marston (Behold…the Arctopus/Krallice/Dysrhythmia) at Menegroth: The Thousand Caves in 2021. For this recording, John was joined by Matthew Otey on bass and Erin Nelson (Chrome Skulls, Soft Dov) on drums. Artwork was created by Mark Hamilton of legendary Irish alt-rockers ASH.
The video for Never-Named was directed by award-winning independent film-maker Ruchika Muchhala (MTV, VICE) in Brooklyn and Jersey City, reflecting the existential but universal theme of being alone in the crowd.
The music and lyrics were originally written in the late 90’s and the song serves as an introduction to both artist and album. Indeed - the entire album is a unique dialogue between the artist who wrote these songs in his teens and twenties and the artist who finally produced the album in his mid-forties. While primarily influenced by the late-90’s metalcore explosion across the Northeast U.S. - particularly in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia - a variety of influences from that era are at play on Shattered Shields, Pt 1 - ranging from punchy hardcore punk and post-grunge alternative rock with hints of folk rock, emo and screamo sprinkled throughout. A metalhead at heart, there is no shortage of heart-pounding thrash, blazing solos and acrobatic rhythms to be found throughout the record.
Shattered Shields, Pt 1 is available for FREE DOWNLOAD AT BANDCAMP, and is #nowplaying on SPOTIFY, APPLE MUSIC and wherever fine streams are strumt.
