SpringHill's Recipe for Change – two specials at TIFF, not just about food!

originally published: 10/05/2022

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The Teaneck International Film Festival, now in its 17th year, will include two Recipe for Change specials, from The SpringHill Company, that deal with crucial issues of the day.  Amplifying Black Women, which was selected by a panel of students, will be shown at Teaneck High School in two assembly programs, each of which will be followed by a talkback.  Teaneck resident Dena Grushkin, who is an educator and filmmaker, has created questions for teachers to use in their classrooms to facilitate further discussion.  Members of the public may buy tickets online to Standing Up to Antisemitism, which will be shown at Temple Emeth (1666 Windsor Road), Sunday, November 20 at 3:00pm.

Recipe for Change: Amplifying Black Women centers on the powerful stories and experiences of Black women, celebrating their perseverance and strength while making space for joy and the power of sisterhood.  Hosts Mary J. Blige, Saweetie and Tabitha Brown partner with esteemed chefs Kelis and Danielle Saunders to host dinner guests including Chlöe Bailey, Winnie Harlow, Kelly Rowland, Jackie Aina, Keisha Lance Bottoms, and more, to celebrate the stories, traditions, identities and experiences of Black women as they gather around the dinner table for necessary conversations.

The audience at the November 20 screening of Recipe for Change: Standing Up to Antisemitism, will view hosts Ilana Glazer, Moshe Kasher and Idina Menzel, who partner with esteemed chefs Nancy Silverton and Einat Admony, and culinary historian Michael Twitty, with dinner guests Skylar Astin, Michael Ian Black, Rachel Bloom, Rabbi Sharon Brous, Tommy Dorfman, Alex Edelman, Hannah Einbinder, Jordan Firstman, Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt, Hari Nef, Josh Peck, Zac Posen, and more.  At three different dinner tables, the guests discuss the breadth of the Jewish experience, including food and culture, and recent and historic acts of hate and violence against the Jewish community.  The most interesting and provocative conversations emerge as those from the Jewish community prove that when oppressed groups band together, the minority becomes a powerful majority and tiny ripples of action can create tidal waves of change.  The conversation will continue during a talkback following the screening.

TIFF Executive Director Jeremy Lentz says, “We are thrilled to be presenting two specials in the Recipe for Change series, each of which is perfect for our theme, Activism: Making Change, and we are grateful for this partnership.”  Both specials are executive produced by LeBron James and Maverick Carter with their media conglomerate The SpringHill Company.  Jamal Henderson, Philip Byron, and showrunner Joel Relampagos also executive produce, with co-executive producers Camille Maratchi and Courtney Whitaker.

Teaneck High School is located at 100 Elizabeth Avenue in Teaneck, New Jersey.
