(TEANECK, NJ) -- On Friday, September 9th at 4:00pm, the Center for Food Action will hold its 10th Annual Day of Service Weekend Snack Pack Event. The event takes place at the Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe (100 Frank W Burr Road). They are seeking volunteers for the event.
The Center for Food Action (CFA) will gather in person for the first time in two years to pack more than 5,000 snack packs. Volunteers of all ages will join the Emmy Award-winning reporter, news anchor, and author Jen Maxfield who founded CFA’s Snack Pack event ten years ago.
Maxfield has seen just about everything in her more than two decades working in news broadcasting, as explained in her new book, MORE AFTER THE BREAK: A Reporter Returns to Ten Unforgettable News Stories. She is passionate about her involvement at CFA and said, "Access to food is a basic human right and hunger is a solvable problem," said Jen Maxfield, NBC New York, and event chairperson. “I've been proud to stand with the Center for Food Action to ensure they get the resources they need to do what they do best for the community within Northern New Jersey.”
Weekend Snack Packs help fight hunger for school-aged children and will be distributed to seventeen area schools within Bergen County to benefit children who are eligible for free meals in the following Cliffside Park, Edgewater, Englewood, Garfield, Hackensack, Leonia, Lodi, Palisades Park, and Teaneck, New Jersey. This program aligns with AmeriCorps goals for 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance, which encourages Americans of all ages to volunteer and commit to future service to improve their communities by supporting residents who are facing food insecurity. Center for Food Action, (CFA) is one of the largest emergency food relief agencies in New Jersey. With a mission to prevent hunger and homelessness, CFA improves the lives of low-income families and individuals from over 100 towns in northern NJ.
