Works by Karen Stolper and Minako Ota on Display at Princeton Public Library Through August

originally published: 07/14/2022

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Works by Karen Stolper and Minako Ota are on display at Princeton Public Library through the end of August.

“In Lunch with Love,” an exhibit by Princeton illustrator and painter Karen Stolper, is on view through August 28 in the second floor Reading Room at Princeton Public Library.

The series “began as drawings created on Post It Notes, which I tucked into my two daughters’ lunch boxes every day for 12 years,” Stolper said in her artist statement. “This project is about all the big days and many little things that make a family, and make a life. ‘In Lunch With Love’ is a reminder that our children have the most important place in our hearts, souls, and funny bones, no matter where they are.”

Stolper holds a BFA from Parsons School of Design. She works in acrylic paint, and pen and ink to create whimsical and conceptual images that mirror everyday life and draw attention to what’s happening in the world around her. Stolper’s award-winning illustrations have appeared in newspapers, magazines, and book covers, as well as greeting cards, art stamps, and paper goods. In addition to her illustration work, Stolper’s skycapes and architectural paintings have been exhibited in juried, solo, and group shows nationally.

Also on view is “Our Inner Ocean: Paintings by Minako Ota,” in the second floor Technology Center through August 30. “This exhibit encapsulates the fact that life began in the oceans,” according to Ota’s artist statement. “We are all still a part of this amazing living ecosystem and connected by this vast body of water. I began painting marine creatures in spring 2020, when COVID-19 became a serious threat in the US. People were being challenged not only in health and economic aspects, but so many others as well such as social, political, racial, and spiritual. This series is created with the hope to inspire people to live more fully and joyously, no matter their circumstances.”
