At The Tabernacle presents Garrison Keillor

originally published: 06/29/2022

(MOUNT TABOR, NJ) -- Of course there'll be the news from Lake Wobegon when Garrison Keillor comes to At The Tabernacle on Saturday, October 1 at 7:30pm. For forty years, Garrison Keillor performed A Prairie Home Companion, wrote fiction and comedy, and invented a town called Lake Wobegon, "where all the children are above average." Tickets are available for purchase online.

It was a town booming with new entrepreneurs making artisanal firewood and gourmet meatloaf, folks breeding composting worms and dogs trained in childcare. The Living Flag on Main Street endures — citizens in tight formation wearing red, white and blue caps. Mr. Keillor’s among them with old neighbors Myrtle Krebsbach (Truckstop), Julie Christensen (Bruno the Fishing Dog) and Clint Bunsen.

Now in retirement, Garrison Keillor is still busy having written a memoir and a book of limericks, and at work on a musical and a Lake Wobegon screenplay. He continues to produce, The Writer’s Almanac, which is sent out daily to internet subscribers for free.

He and his wife Jenny Lind Nilsson live in Minneapolis, not far from the YMCA where at age 12 he was sent for swimming lessons after his cousin drowned. He skipped the lessons and instead went to the local radio station to watch a noontime show with singers and a band. Thus, our course in life is set.

At The Tabernacle was formed in 1997, and is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to preserving the experience of intimate live performance, while helping to protect and maintain the historical Victorian-era Tabernacle building, located at 26 Simpson Avenue in the center of Mt. Tabor, New Jersey.
