"Julia Scotti: Funny That Way" Screening & Live Comedy Event on June 25th

originally published: 06/15/2022

(WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ) -- The critically-acclaimed documentary Julia Scotti: Funny That Way about New Jersey comedian Julia Scotti will be screened at Township Theatre on Saturday, June 25 at 9:00pm followed by a Q&A with Julia and the film's director Susan Sandler plus a stand-up set by Julia.  A portion of the evening's proceeds goes to the Bergen County LGBTQ Alliance.

Julia Scotti: Funny That Way is the tender and triumphant story of comedian Julia Scotti. Beautifully told through the lens of director Susan Sandler (Crossing Delancey), the documentary follows the New Jersey native who, for decades, was known as Rick Scotti, a successful comedian who in the 80’s appeared with the likes of Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock and won Showtime’s Funniest Person in New Jersey contest. Rick's true awakening at age forty-seven led to a new identity as Julia Scotti and everyone turned away - former wives, friends, family, comedy world buddies, and most painfully Julia’s children.

Julia reinvented herself, spent a decade teaching, and then several years ago, stepped back on stage and began her journey back to the comedy world she loves. Notable as the first trans comedian to appear on "America’s Got Talent", Julia continues to perform her honest, relatable stand-up around the country, and she just released a brand new live comedy album Primal Cuts.

Tickets are $35 and available for purchase online.

Township Theatre is located at 249 Pascack Road in Washington Twp (Bergen County), New Jersey.
