Hoboken Historical Museum Hosts Coffee Festival on Sunday

(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- The Hoboken Historical Museum presents the return of the Hoboken Coffee Festival on Sunday, May 15th from 10:30am - 3:30pm. Join them an array of coffee and tea-themed booths in the Shipyard Passageway as well as 4 ticketed events indoors. The festival is curated by @secret.tearoom

Their 4 indoor event provide an opportunity to learn from the experts and connect with fellow caffeine lovers. Tickets are $15 per event and available for purchase online. All ticket-buyers will receive a complimentary mug from the Museum, choosing from among a wide variety of designs. Seating is limited. Proceeds benefit the Museum.

11:00am – 11:45am: “Coffee Cupping” Travas Clifton, co-founder of modcup coffee. Travas Clifton talks through how experts ‘cup’ coffee to savor the best brews and detect faults. “Cupping” is very refined process to brew a cup from freshly roasted and ground beans, to taste and evaluate for qualities such as cleanness, sweetness, acidity, mouthfeel and aftertaste. The audience will take part in a cupping, and enjoy complimentary coffees!  modcup has been roasting their own beans since 2013 and have three locations and a truck in Jersey City. 

12:00pm – 12:45pm: “Latte Art” Tats Mori-Ryan, bwè kafeTats Mori-Ryan explores the differences between a latte, a cappuccino and a flat white, and reveals the techniques and steps a barista takes to make the best and most beautiful ones. Family-owned and operated since 2013, bwe now operates 3 locations in Hudson County. 

1:00pm – 1:45pm: “The Espresso Machine in History and Parts” Stephen Bellamy, Maverick Espresso Tech. Stephen Bellamy, of Boxwood Coffee Roasters, discusses the historic discovery of the espresso machine and breaks down how it works, both in words and literally with the machine at hand! Boxwood began with the founders roasting coffee beans in their garage. Since opening their first location in Summit, NJ in 2014, they’ve grown to open two more in Westfield and Florham Park, with a full roastery and kitchen.

2:00pm – 2:45pm: “Good to the Last Drop? Maxwell House in Hoboken” Robert Foster, Hoboken Museum. The aroma of coffee roasting at the Maxwell's plant once wafted over Hoboken. Explore those halcyon days and the lingering bitter aftertaste of the final closure with the Museum’s Director.

The Hoboken Historical Museum is located at 1301 Hudson Street in Hoboken, New Jersey. The museum collects and displays artifacts in themed exhibitions on Hoboken history and offers educational programs, lectures, tours and hosts films and plays. They are a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
