"In the Beginning..." -- New Brunswick's Crossroads Theatre Company Gives "Beginnings" to New Plays with Its Genesis Festival


“In the beginning” is the opening phrase of the Bible and connotes the start of all things. The Crossroads Theatre Company, in New Brunswick, has done that just about every year since 1990 with its Genesis Festival, a week-long series of play readings. The reading is the start, the “beginning” for a drama, and not only lets the author know how the play sounds but, in the Crossroads Festival, gets a second layer- audience reaction at post play symposiums.

(MANASQUAN, NJ) -- Algonquin Arts Theatre is currently presenting Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. The musical runs now through Sunday, April 10. This enchanting, musical adaptation of the beloved fairytale will put a spell on audiences of all ages. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella showcases some of the songwriting duo’s loveliest tunes, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible,” and “Ten Minutes Ago.” Add a dash of fairytale romance, magical onstage transformations, and the iconic glass slippers—and you’re guaranteed to have a ball!
Centenary Stage Company’s Women Playwrights Series Kicks Off with "Apartment 3F"


(HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) -- Centenary Stage Company’s Women Playwrights Series will kick off with a reading of Apartment 3F by Sarah Vander Schaaff. The reading will take place on Wednesday, April 13 at 7:30pm in the Sitnik Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center at 715 Grand Avenue, Hackettstown, NJ on the campus of Centenary University. The Women Playwright Series readings are free to attend with donations welcome, advanced reservations have a $5.00 fee.

Spotlight on Slomo Casino


Slomo Casino consists of Jonny Ball (Guitars/Vocals) and Jack Batchelor (Drums/Head Chef).  They are two old friends who met at music college in Liverpool and bonded over a love of good food, Gears of War and Japanese anime. Years later, playing separately in many bands, Stockport/Manchester based Indie pop/soul duo Slomo Casino was finally formed after a series of drunken voice memo song ideas to each other revealed that they actually had something going together. The Penguin Rocks presents this interview with Slomo Casino.
Spotlight On Kyle Chatham


Kyle Chatham is an artist originally from the west coast of Scotland who is now based in South London.  He plays a mixture of indie folk and alternative with elements of ambient/soundscape scattered throughout. He plans to put a band around the music as the music is mostly presented that way in the recordings, but currently is playing solo.  The Penguin Rocks presents this interview with Kyle Chatham.
Heading East Records launched by Fred Mascherino


Fred Mascherino recently launched his very own indie record label Heading East Records. Its inaugural release A Year and Change by The Color Fred was released worldwide. “I’m from the Philly area and anytime I was on tour, ‘Heading East’ meant we were heading towards home,” explains Mascherino. “That always brought good feelings and I’ve mentioned it in songs. It’s a nice way to represent being from the East Coast and also keeping those good vibes part of this.”

New Jersey Symphony presents works by Rouse, Nokuthula Ngwenyama, Mozart, Rossini


(NEWARK, NJ) -- New Jersey Symphony Principal Bassoon Robert Wagner gives the East Coast premiere of Christopher Rouse’s Bassoon Concerto, April 8–10. Music Director Xian Zhang conducts the program, which also features Nokuthula Ngwenyama’s Primal Message, Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony and Rossini’s Overture to Guillaume Tell.
Red Hot Shame releases "My Satellite"


(EUREKA, CA) -- Red Hot Shame is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Xeff Scolari and his fluctuating lineup of Northern California based musical partners in crime. The band will release, My Satellite, on April 15, 2022 and will have several performances in support of the album across Northern California with the plan to release a My Satellite LIVE album before the year is through.

Jewish Heritage Museum presents The Great American Songbook - A Zoom Concert


(FREEHOLD, NJ) -- The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County presents The Great American Songbook- A Zoom Concert by piano and vocal duo Dorothy Dobkowski and Justin Ryan. NJCU presents An Opera Double Bill


(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Love and comedy are on trial as New Jersey City University's Music, Dance and Theatre Department presents Gilbert & Sullivan's one-act comedy "Trial by Jury" and excerpts from Offenbach's "The Tales of Hoffman" in the West Side Theatre. Performances take place Saturday, April 9 at 7:30pm and Sunday, April 10 at 3:00pm. Free admission with registration online.
RAHWAY releases "Only The Strong"


(RAHWAY, NJ) -- The Slumlords of NJ, as they are called, New Jersey’s favorite hard rock band, RAHWAY is premiering their brand-new music video for the song “Only The Strong” on April 1, 2022 via their YouTube channel. “Strong” is the third music video off of the band’s highly acclaimed EP, Slumlords of NJ. Their last music video “Stone” was released in September 2020 and the EPs lead off-single “Sugar” was released in the middle of the pandemic with a Zoom-style filming.

Riverside Gallery presents "Looking Up" by Marsha Heller


(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- Riverside Gallery presents "Looking Up" - a new solo exhibition by Marsha Heller. The exhibition will run from April 4th-April 20th, 2022 with an opening reception on Saturday, April 9th, 2022 from 4:00pm-6:00pm. According to the artist, “Looking Up” refers to the sights she beholds when looking out her windows or opening her door in the morning and seeing the sky shining through the trees. Every angle suggests a new painting to her. With these works, she tries to share her exhilaration with viewers, as she hopes that, for the world, things will soon be “Looking Up”.

The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County Will Be Participating In "Weekend in Old Monmouth"


(FREEHOLD, NJ) -- After a hiatus due to the pandemic, The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County will once again be participating in "Weekend in Old Monmouth," an event sponsored and promoted by the Monmouth County Historical Commission. The weekend is marked by Monmouth County historical sites opening their doors to visitors and waiving their admission fees. This year’s event at the Museum will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2022 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm.
