State Theatre presents "Cats"


(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- The newly renovated State Theatre New Jersey presents the Tony® Award-winning musical, CATS for five performances from March 18-20. Audiences and critics alike are rediscovering this beloved musical with breathtaking music, including one of the most treasured songs in musical theater -- “Memory.”

(MANASQUAN, NJ) -- Peter Shaffer's Amadeus is entering its last weekend at Algonquin Arts Theatre with performances on Saturday at 8:00pm and Sunday at 3:00pm.  The play is a reimagining of the lives of Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The play, brought to life with the music of Mozart, is a tale of jealousy and betrayal... and perhaps even murder. The story opens in 1825 on the eve of the elderly Salieri's death. The show won the Tony award for Best Play and the Academy Award for Best Film. Algonquin's production will be directed by Gina Lupi.
The Stages Festival celebrates 25th Anniversary With Over 80 Events This Spring


For 25 years, New Jersey Theatre Alliance (“the Alliance”) has offered a spring festival of performances, workshops, and readings throughout the state. This year’s festival will include a combination of in-person and online offerings. The 40 member theatres of the Alliance will collectively produce 80 events, made available at no cost or at deeply-discounted ticket prices throughout March, April, and May, 2022.

Our Favorite Stories In Music: An Interview With Gordon Brown of Williams Honor


New Jersey Stage published its 25,000th story in December 2021. As the site approached the milestone, we posed the question on social media as how we should celebrate.  One response was to highlight our favorite stories from over the years.  We liked this idea, but could not narrow things down to just 25 favorites so we will present a favorite each day from different genres. Every Monday we feature one of our favorite stories in music. This week's choice is an interview with Gordon Brown back in the early days of the band Williams Honor.
SOPAC presents Shovels & Rope


(SOUTH ORANGE, NJ) -- Shovels & Rope channel Country, Folk, Bluegrass, Americana and Blues through a nervy Indie Rock prism. Partners musically and in life, this duo composed of Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst combines threads from their solo careers in the harmonious music they mix together. They recently released Manticore, their most open and intimate release to date. Touring in support of the new record, they will come to the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) on Friday, April 8th at 8:00pm.

Kathy Zimmer To Play Mercury Lounge on March 14th


(NEW YORK, NY) -- Kathy Zimmer will perform at the Mercury Lounge on Monday, March 14 on a bill with Rogelio Penaverde (known as Illustrado). Kathy hits the stage at 6:30pm, Ilustrado comes on at 7:30pm. This is Kathy's first show since February 2020.

American Repertory Ballet presents the World Premiere of Ethan Stiefel's "A Midsummer Night's Dream"


(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- American Repertory Ballet (ARB) presents the world premiere of Ethan Stiefel’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, April 1-3, 2022 at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center. His first full-length ballet for the company since being named Artistic Director in the summer of 2021, Stiefel’s magicalproduction for audiences of all ages will be performed in collaboration with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kenneth Bean.

Newark Recreation Offers Learn To Swim Program for Children with Autism


(NEWARK, NJ) -- On February 28, 2022, Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Director of Recreation, Cultural Affairs, and Senior Services Patrick Council announced that the City of Newark is launching a Learn to Swim Program for Children with Autism, which will teach children and young adults across the spectrum water safety and swim instruction. 
Eva’s Village in Paterson receives $20,000 Kearny Bank contribution


(FAIRFIELD, NJ) --In support of Paterson-based non-profit Eva’s Village, KearnyBank Foundation has contributed a total of $20,000 to help address an expanded need for services dictated by the ongoing pandemic.

Monmouth County Park System's Golf Season Begins


(MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ) -- Grab your clubs and come ready to play! The Monmouth County Park System’s golf season starts March 1 and all six county golf courses - Bel-Aire in Wall, Charleston Springs in Millstone, Hominy Hill in Colts Neck, Howell Park in Farmingdale, Pine Brook in Manalapan, and Shark River in Neptune – will open for play through the end of the year, weather permitting.

WBGO Launches Rhythm And Song Weekends and Adds Pat Prescott to Its Air


(NEWARK, NJ) -- Over the weekend, WBGO listeners were treated to the launch of WBGO's Rhythm and Song Weekend, featuring expanded Rhythm Revue with Felix Hernandez on Saturdays as well as a Sunday edition of the popular program, plus an expanded Come Sunday with Lezlie Harrison. On Monday, February 28 at noon, WBGO will begin airing a new two hour program Favorite Things with Pat Prescott.
